40mph?
 

I am trying to get a FE set up to go about 40mph.
This is what I have in mind. MHZ Flash thick hull, Feigao 9XL, Barracuda-125, 14 sub C cells. I don't know what prop. Suggestions would be nice. My question is is this a good hull? And is the motor a good choice for this hull? Would I need to change the winds of the motor? If I can get it to go about about 35mph I would be pleased.

Sounds decent. I'd start somewhere around a 33mm prop on 14 cells. Speed predictions are 37-43mph with a performance mono.(not sure about the MHZ hull) This is according to the FE calculator which I believe has been very accurate for myself.

Only reason for the MHZ hull idea is my budget. It comes with all the hardware installed and its a glass construction. I have a $250 budget for hull and all hardware. And I figure that a glass boat will hold up ALOT better than ABS plastic.

Iferguson - If your motor is a 9XL then that makes a big difference in predictions I made on your other post. The figures I gave you were for the 9L. The 9XL should do the job on 14 cells. The loaded RPMs would be around 25K which is good for a fast mono.

Yea I had to change from a Long to a Extra Long due to my cell count. I am have not purchased the motor yet, so if I need to change the number of winds I can. I just figured 9 would be a good middle ground for torque and RPM. I just don't know about this MHZ hull.

Well...I do know that MHZ makes great hulls and have heard nothing but good things on quality of glass and gelcoat work. I own the Gecko and it is a sweet boat and built really well.

From what I've heard about the stepped monos is that they will run fast on smooth water because they are more free running but they lack in the area of rough water handling.

I would call or email mhz. They would be happy to give advice. I am sure it could be done, but 14 cells is quite a bit of weight for a 25 inch hull.

The boat is designed for 12-14 cells.

Good thinking. I called the guys at MHZ and they said it should work just fine. So that is what I am going to go with. Is there some formula that I can use to figure which prop I should use?

Well retard me didnt read the e-mail MHZ also sent me that said to use a 42mm or 45mm prop. So I am going with this setup with the 42mm prop. I will need a receiver and servo battery pack. I don't know how to choose that. Advice on that would be nice. Oh and I need to buy a switch also, right? OK well that takes care of all my money I am allowed to spend. That sure did go really fast. :)

Your cuda125 has a BEC (battery eliminator circuit). This allows the power for the receiver and servo to be drawn from the batt. packs. So you don't need a seperate reciever batt. No need for a switch...plug in battery packs and go!

What radio to you have?

BEC only up to 12 cells. I will be running 14 cells. THe radio is a Hitec Aggressor 2 channel AM.

Start with a Octura X442 prop - as long as the boat is built properly you should be going to a X645 at some time in the future
