Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
Hello guys.
Just wanted to post this. because i am brutally board. Here it is I have been waiting for it for a while. It is a micro COD ( Canadian one design). It is 11 inches long and made from 1/16th and 1/64th inch ply. Laser cut by Osbornmodelkits.com Also my sponsor. This was the secon boat cut. The kit went together very very smoothly. i am very happy with it . Derek ( owner of osbornmodelkits.com) made the same one. I am doing him the hardware for his and we are going to make them both that same performance wise so they are competitive. You will see a brushless motor in there But that is just the mock up motor. i have a stock 280 to go into it . Just a small fun boat and great for promos. I am running a 7.4lipo 1600 Mah with a gws servo. airtronics receiver and a esc that i forget what its called at the moment. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture675.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture676.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture677.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture680.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture681.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture684.jpg |

RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
Ok so i have a old CD player and i take it apart and what do i find !! a out runner Brushless motor for the CD driver
I take it apart and fashion my own mounting plate and do some electrical work. then i test it It has a boat load of power( pun intended) like mad !!! I'm going to make a couple and run therm in boats to see how effective they work. I am going to make a micro with twin brushless and i'm going to use these CD motors. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture701.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture702.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture704.jpg |

Here is the semi finished product.
I have to add the hardware and what not and do a heavy clear coat. and then it will be ready to hit the water http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture707.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture705.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture708.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture710.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture712.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture713.jpg |

I like it alot. Very cool. I am a micro lover.

RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
what do you think of my CD motor ?
|
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
very ingenuitive. Maybe a hard drive motor would work also?
|
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
No i looked at them .
well the one i had any way. It was a brushed motor. :( |
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
Look on ebay for the old seagate cheeta 10k scsi drive. They are more than likley brushless. You can grab one for under 20 bux.

RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)

Ive got a broken cd player laying around here somewhere. |

RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
So let me get this straight... all cd players have an out runner Brushless motor in them, or were you just lucky and most are brushed motors that turn the cd? Thats awesome how you discovered that, nice boat too, I like it a lot.

RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
I knew about the bushless motor for having had them several times. and taking the CD drives apart.
They are only good in certain applications. all the news cd drives are brushless. from about 1994 on are all brushless |
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
i like it alot. small, where do you plan on running it?
|
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
ponds lakes. pools any where
|
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
That sounds pretty cool. I'll take apart my old cd player since I have a newer one I bought (its not that old but its broken) this weekend and tinker with it. I'll see what I can come up with / do with that motor. Thanks for your help.

RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
any way lets get back on topic with my boat :)
|
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
so how long honestly do think that takes to build, I'd possible be interested, why not
|
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
took me one night to assemble the frame and then about 2 hour to put on the skin.
the only time is the drying time and if you have a fast cure CA then your good. after you coat it with selaer and then i JB welded all the important parts to secure them |
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
What are you using for an ESC?
|
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
don't know yet. I have to hit the bridged when summer comes :)
i'm thinking a E flite airplane esc though |
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
Since the boat is so small I am sure you could get away with using a Mama 25 esc.
|

ORIGINAL: Wheelnut Since the boat is so small I am sure you could get away with using a Mama 25 esc. I used the mamba motor simply for the mock up to get every thing in place. :) |
RE: Micro COD (dialup user be warned)
I thought you were using a brushless CD motor.
