Drifter L Setup
Hey
Because i can buy feigao motors for dirt cheap here (less than 50 bux for an XL) I was thinking about buying a Hydro and Marine Drifter L and run two Feigao Xl motors in it (wut turn) and twin Hextronic 120a Esc's. Would this work ok? If not what would i have to do? and any guesses what speeds i would get? Thanks Dan |

Ya know I want to do a big twin motor cat so bad...But I know for a fact a single will walk all over it for a 3rd of the build cost. I agree with Taylor 100% If you plan on one big cat and you want the best performance. A single is the only option.

Down the road I plan on a 45inch+ cat with twin MHZ sterndrives powered buy a couple big brushless motors. It will be more of a scale boat but I expect @ least 35 40 out of it. That baby will sing.

Anyways if i did do a twin what motors could i use? Yea Exactly Crabstick, its all for the scale sound and noise, but i still would like to keep the costs a litte bit lower. while still using twins

twin fiegao 10xls and twin hextronic ESC's on a Y harness ?:D ... A guy in our club has a drifter s with twin lehner powered Damas model.. its insane, the motors are around 4000rpm/v and running lipos you can barely keep in on the water does 50 + mph sound is music to my ears harmonic resonation of the engines ringing their little rotors out.

Wow. Sounds like a cool setup Don, but he's NOT running 10 XLs @ 4000kv.

Get a HPR 115 hull and two Lehner 3060's and 2 MGM's and you can build a boat that'll go 116 mph. It'll only cost about $4000 with batts. Search under Pair-a-dice on xtremercboats or on RumRunners. Twins can go pretty darn good but single's are less expensive!

I don't have $4000 either. I DO have a H & M Superkat that cost about $230 and depending on how I set it up, it could be really pretty reasonable cost-wise and still really quick. It'll never do 116 mph, but then I couldn't drive it anyway. Heck, I can't drive a boat that's going 45 very well. I'm getting there, though.

I just watched a vid of a twin powered drifter M and it was krazy, the sound it makes is SWEET. I wannna do twins so bad now but i just calculated the price and its over 700 dollars. So what motor would you guys think for a single setup? I was thinking a 14XL on 20 cells with a hextronic esc. First of all will the esc handle this, and i would like to get at least 45 mph.

Hi Dan, you see what i mean about the sound, you wait til you hear one with your own ears how did you get to 700?
i suppose by the time you buy the hull and everything its an easy 700.. |

Hey,
I'm going on vacation. When I get back, I'll post some pics of the M-1. There're one or two on RumRunners, but they just show the hull with the rudders and strut on it. Search under M-1 if you're really interested - it's boring so far. Here's a breakdown of the cost. Keep in mind that I'm using the same speedo for two boats (P-Mono) so I don't have to buy one of those. I'm using the same two sets of Lipos for both boats though I have several set of Nimh's that I'll also use for practice. My experience has been that if I combine uses on this stuff (admittedly mostly with airplanes), my cost goes down. Can't easily use the same motor for more than one boat, but I can easily use the same batts and speedo. I also, of course, use the same Tx. I bought it used and it came with 5 rx's so I never have to worry about that either. All my boats are the same channel - 76. Actually, I got a Spektrum setup and two spectrum rx's plus a pcm module for the same radio and three good rx's, all the same channel. Anyway, I think that used stuff is the way to go with the possible exception of motors. H & M M-1 Superkat Hull 240 Hardware (mix of fuller's and Speedmaster) 90 Motor - Aveox 4643/2 375 Batts (2 4s 4900) - 425 for 2 boats equals 212 212 Radio and Speedo JR R-1 and MGM 12032 $270 + $450 ( between two boats) 720/2 360 Misc - mm, ant., props, cf, paint, epoxy, flex, hex. 100 1377 I hadn't added this up before and I'm almost ashamed that it's so much higher than I thought it would be. Well, remember that I had a bunch of that stuff already e.g. the hardware and misc., etc. Whew, I'm glad my wife doesn't know about this. I wonder what this'll add up to in $/mph? You know what? Doesn't matter one lick. I work very hard and need a bit of peace. I get it by building these things. And then I get a bit of fun and adrenaline from running them. It's worth every bleeding penny. JH Ny No step 1 ( 6 cell brushless ) has cost me 925 dollars to date and its not even ready yet. LOL consider your self lucky. Mine is also 21 inches long and only 6 cells. |
