Help for first timer
 

Hello, I am new to RC boating and just bought a home on a small pond (about 900'x300') and wanted to get an easy to use and fast RC boat to play with. After visiting my local hobby shop I realized that nitro was not what I wanted due to the noise but I liked the speed they could achieve. Unfortunately, none of the electric boats he carried seemed to be worth the price. After searching online, I found this boat and are thinking of buying it because of the twin 550 motors and the speed it claims it can achieve but wanted to ask some more experienced RC boaters if it was worth it or not and if this was too big for a pond my size. Also, are there any upgrades you would recommend to this model?

I here its ok but nothing great. Try to stay away from the twin drive boats. Yes I know it seems like it would be faster, but its not. Try looking at the new Shock Wave 26. Here is a link to a thread about it.

Yes that boat probably isnt the greatest...Get the proboat shockwave 26 rs ep!!

what do you want to do? you could easily put around at 25 or 20 miles an hour with a supervee 27, and brushless are faily quiet. On the other hand i would root the shockwave 26 all the way.

I was really just hoping someone knew about this boat. The add on the website said it could achieve speeds in excess of 30 mph which I thought was only possible with nitro.

Link says: 36" boat, does 30-35 mph on 12 volts and a run time of 30-40 minutes! That's unheard of. That would be great but I don't believe it. Brushless Supervee 27 is a vary fast electric RTR. and won't do those speeds out of the box typically on 14 volts. And it runs for about 8 minutes. I think the add is BS. From what I'm reading the SW26 or the mini-V would be good. I think 30 mph is too much for 0.2 mile long pond (just my 2 wooden pennies)

i would buy eaither a traxxas blast or villian. they good in rouygh and smoth water and are silent as can be

quick tip here. You can't believe any of those speed or run time statements on ebay, or most rtr boats for that matter.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case and it sure makes it hard for someone trying to get something decent without spending a fortune.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will look into the boats suggested and stay away from the one originally posted.

Here is a short list of some affordable rtr boats.

SW26, nice surface drive boat with upgrade possibilities.
Aquacraft Hammer EP, nice subsurface drive boat with more limited upgrade possibilities.
Traxxas Villan EX, nice, pretty fast boat out of the box with deep vee hull thats good for rough and smooth water, but expensive to upgrade.
The regular Villan can be had for less and I believe is just as fun.
Traxxas Blast, Decent smaller boat with upgrade possibilities, but I would prefer the SW26 over this for better looks and the hull has more room for upgrades.

With such a comprehensive list I'm surprised you didn't mention the mini-V.

I guess maybe not but it's in the price range that the original boat was in (of course no battery, charger, ect). But I bet it's about right for the lake he's got.

Yep, I guess. But I think he is looking for what I would call a 1/10th scale boat.
I would call the Mini Vee a 1/18th scale;)
