Advice on speed controllers & batteries
I am new to electric, just switching over from IC and need some advice. I have a 49" Precedent Perkasa. I intend to use 2 540 motors on one channel, what speed controller and batteries would you recommend.

RE: Advice on speed controllers & batteries
you will need alot bigger than two 540 motors.

this speedy can handle 2 motors if you dont feel like modifying any wiring. Just plug it in. Its also watercooled.

martin18,
Basically, the size of the ESC is determined by the maximum current draw of the system. Find, or figure out how much current one motor draws, double it and you have the current requirements for two motors (if they're connected in parallel). A 'stall test' will tell you what each motor's current draw is. Add a little "fudge factor" to that current total and that's the 'size' ESC to get. It's always better to have a little 'too big' of an ESC, than one not big enough. For boats, a 'water proof' ESC is nice. Not always needed if you position/protect them so they won't 'normally' get wet, and the boat doesn't ship a lot of water for whatever reason. Two of the ESCs I know are available in the UK are 'Mtronics' and 'Electronize' (spelling is optional if I didn't get those right). There are certainly others, I just don't know what they are since I don't normally 'shop' in the UK (4500 miles is a little far to drive). Good luck. - 'Doc |

Hi,
Is the boat 49"? Those motors likely won't get the boat up on plane. You'll need way more power and good batteries. Take a look at Rumrunnerracing.com - the forums have a lot of info on figuring out what you'll need for voltage, etc., then you can figure out what combo of motors, esc's, batteries, etc. will get you there. I use it a lot and haven't been steered wrong yet. Thanks and have fun. For me, building these things is half the fun - running them with my kids and racing them is the other half. JH |

Thanks for the advice. What size motors would you recommend?
