Final Plans for a Fast Cat
Ok I've pretty much decided what I am going to build.
Drifter S Cat Nemesis XL Brushless motor (what turn should i go for?) Castle Barracuda 125 6C (3+3) liPo battery (what mah is good for this size?) FDM 8-16 cell Hydro Complete Hardware Kit (can it handle the power?) Not sure about prop size, thinking CF for price Have a radio with a metal gear high torque servo I am really hoping this thing will scoot, what kind of speeds can i hope for? I should have it build before august 11 if im lucky, otherwise the weekend after. |
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
ok fecalc is telling me ill get 57.6mph with a 7xl motor and a 32mm prop which just seems ludacris
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
Do you mean a 6 C discharge rating on the lipo cells? And only 3 cell lipo paralleled? Which packs do you have in mind. FEcalc tends to overestimate current draw and speed.

RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
i dont know about discharge rate, i dont know what batteries to use. i meant i want to run 2 3cell packs in a series for 6 cells total.
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
Are you still running twins?
Ryan |
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
no just 6 cells to one motor
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
ive decided just to buy the 6cell lipo from finedesignrc so know i just need to know which turn motor i should use. would a 6xl draw too much? i just dont know much about brushless motors yet.
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
you may want to try a 9-10xl if your running a 6-cell lipo. i dont know this for sure but i think that it may get fairly hot. someone correct me if im wrong. i realy dont want him to do the wrong thing because of me.
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
A 6XL will be a very hot setup on anything more than 4 cell lipo. I'd recommend looking at something around 9-10XL and propping the motor very light.
Ryan |
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
so maybe a 9xl and a 42mm prop?
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
I personally would start with a 37mm prop and work my way up. A 6 cell boat will be a hot setup. Care must be taken when testing the final outcome. Constant temp checking is a must. Proper and efficient cooling is also a must.

RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
i will be using the offshoreelectrics cooling jacket made for the fiagaos and a rudder water pickup. i assume the esc will need cooling, how should i accomplish this?
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
and i changed hulls again. i want to use the mean machine hull now. will it be much slower with the added 3.5"?
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
By picking up the cooling plates offshore sells for the ESC. No the 3.5" extra is good.
Ryan |
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
theyre sold out of the esc plates. could http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...qub9212&cat=75 be made to work?
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
The 2 ESC's have different dimensions. I'd wait untill the plates are in stock or make up your own.

RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
this guy is running basically the same boat. it has a 12xl and a 3blade prop. http://youtube.com/watch?v=vGVdNT76M0w
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
He is in here once in a while and goes by the name Orange Crush.
He is running a 37mm prop using a 12XL and 6 cell lipo's. I'd try and mimic his setup as you would get more runtime out of it. Ryan |
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
should i just flat out copy the motor and prop?
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
Go with a 2 bladed prop around 37/38mm and use the 12XL. The 12XL has a MAX of around 55A according to the charts, you may get away without water cooling on the CC125 but you must prop it light - 37mm, 2 blade. I'd shoot a PM off to Orange Crush for question such as hardware ect.

RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
alright i ordered everything after talking to chris at finedesign a bit.
i got mean machine hull nemesis blue 12xl CC Hydra 120 3700mah 6cell lipo FDM hardware kit 35mm CF 2blade prop im going to test and retest the watercooling before even plugging in the battery. |
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
hey did you ever build this? How is it? Sounds like a hot rig.
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
still waiting on parts. the last of them will be in on the 1st, just in time for a 2 day drive back to texas.
|
RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
so its the first and only one of my boxes came in. so now on my way from CO-->TX im going to stop at the UPS store to get the other one. now i have to wait until i get home to build it...sigh

RE: Final Plans for a Fast Cat
pics of the hull.
I am seriously thinking about not using the hatch and making a flat clear lexan one. i think it would be cool to see all the electronics and it seems like being flat would make it faster due to increased aerodnamics. http://www.geocities.com/bebopin64/boat1.jpg http://www.geocities.com/bebopin64/boat2.jpg http://www.geocities.com/bebopin64/boat3.jpg |
