Greasing the SV27 shaft

Hi guys...
Being a newbie to the boating world and the first time I have taken the shaft out whats the best way to grease up the shaft and how much should I put on it? I have some Grimracer grease also... If the shaft isnt greased well can water leak in throught the shaft???

Thanks

Water will likely not come in bryan. You just need a coating on the whole shaft. I put a few drops of 3in1 on the back near the prop where the brass bushing is. Here's a good excercise for a new SV owner. Take the moter out and clean the shaft off. Put it in, and turn it. Now pull it out and put a real thick coat of grease on it. Re-insert and turn it again by hand. Now remove it and using your hand wipe off most of what's there. repeat. Then if you like try the 3in1. I pull my shaft after I'm done at the lake and wipe it clean and put it inside the hull. I think that lets eveything dry out best.

That's all I got. Good luck.

Hmmm ok... Not to hard ... Now the how often should it be done.. If I run it its usually a day on the weekend and run maybe 3 double packs of 3300's then thats it...

just pull it when you are done for the day and clean it off and lay it in the hull. Then grease it and put it in right before you run the next time.

Depending on how often you run, you can probably get away with greasing the shaft about once every few months, unless you run in salt water, which will mean a wash off after every run and a re-oiling as well.

As regaeding the greasing of the shaft, I use a medical seringe minus needle filled with axle grease, pump grease into the shaft about 10mm of travel on the seringe is enough then slide the shaft up the stern tube.

If you fill the stern tube completely with grease THEN put the shaft up the boat, you get a mess inside the boat, and sometimes a motor caked in grease! that happenned to me when I regreased my najade for the first time.

I use a medical syringe as well. Just be careful that you don't lose the brass bushing in the strut when you pull the shaft. I run my boat 2-3 days a week and grease the shaft monthly. I use Aquacraft grease (probably the same as the GrimRacer kind).
