ordered a micro iceberg... few questions

I just ordered a micro iceberg. I'm looking to do a single engine setup. I've done alittle research to see what others have used however I have a motor sitting here I would like to consider.

Its an AXI 2814 Series Outrunner Brushless http://www.hobby-lobby.com/brushless-axi2814.htm 1390kv It says on that site, "For SPEED 500-600 size airplanes and .25-.35 glow conversions" I would be using it with a 3 cell lipo

Anyways If this even fits, Can somebody suggest a prop for a starting point? Or do you think the Kv is too low on this motor?

Typically an inrunner will be a better choice although you could try an outrunner with higher kv and see how it goes. The renegade rigger flies and it has an outrunner. i would use a bigger one than the renegade rigger has. that boat is 18" i believe. with that size its hard to say for an inrunner. maybe a 540s or 380xl would work well. 380xl on 3s lipo, 540s on a 2s lipo.

I may try it and if I don't like it switch it out later.

Your motor will not work well, it has a too low Kv, speed will be slow for this size boat. It is just 17" long and very narrow. To get any speed with that motor you'll have to run a large prop - which is not a good thing with this hull.

I would run the boat on 2S with a motor giving around 2000-2500 Kv myself if I was going to sport run it. My Iceberg holds the IMPBA SAW record with 4 NiMH cells at 33+ mph. I used a Lehner 1515 motor with a high Kv and an x432 prop. With 6 NiMH cells and a prototype Aveox motor an Iceberg holds the NAMBA record at 43 mph. Both speeds are not appropriate for sport running - they are maximum-effort speed attempts.

Understood.
Thanks for the info.

looking at finedesignrc I found a combo,

"Fine Design Nemesis BlueTM - BK 9920 Combo Sale "
http://www.finedesignrc.com/motorsne...eesccombos.asp

anyways tell me what you think,

In the S I can only get as low as 2730 kv
In the L it goes between 3511 and 1755 kv so I can pick something lower in kv then 2700

Your saying go with a 2 cell setup? Max rpm would be between 14800 - 18500 with what you mentioned if I'm understanding that right.
But also with my 3 cell, on 1300 kv thats 11.1 v X 1300 rpm = 14430 so thats up there too is it not?

This will be sport running as you mentioned but I still want some pronounced quickness to her

A 540 will be way to big for that hull.
I had a feigao 380s in mine. I think that a 380l or xl is the biggest you can go in this boat.

I even modified the hatch to get some more room for the motor and get a better angle on the shaft.

How about this one, Its right where RPM was describing for KV
http://www.astroflight.com/store/sto...1sT0sssxg455W3

Also H2O CAT used it in his boat with great results: http://www.rumrunnerracing.com/fefor...hlight=iceberg

Actually his was a 4 turn and this one is listed as 5 turns
