Mini V Trim Tabs??
 

Ok, I bought a mini v a while back and ran it around the pool for a while. Well I decided that wasn't fast enough for me, so I converted it to brushless. I just got it onto a lake today and I love it. Now this is my first boat. So, that being said, one of the guys where I was at said something about trim tabs, What exactly are they, and where can I get a set that will fit my Boat? I also chewed up my prop pretty good, so now is my excuse to go to a brass prop, where can I get one of those?

If you are lazy like me you can do a search on RCU and on the internet and find some other micro boats out there and order the Trim Tabs for those boats.

If it's anything like a brushless Gecko, then trim tabs won't help. If your boat is running faster now and hopping out of the water, it's probably because of the driveline or prop angle. I've noticed on the MiniV that the prop angle is negative, just like the Gecko. On my Gecko, I pulled the solid shaft out of the boat and chucked it. I then pulled out the stuffing tube which is what held the prop shaft. I re-installed the tube parallel to the keel of the boat and put in a flex shaft. Now I can go full speed without hopping. Trim tabs are just a band-aid to the real problem which is drive angle and possibly weight distribution.

Jdoug, that is exactly what my boat is doin. Now can you dumb it down? or point me to somewhere that I can read a step by step of making it into a flex-drive?

I'm not sure if there are any tutorials on how to do this on a MiniV. Your goal would be to make it into a true surface drive with a neutral angle (0 deg.) on the prop shaft. You are sort of limited because they are pretty new boats and haven't seen much in the way of mods.

You basically need to remove the Proboat driveline and switch it to a flex with a stuffing tube. Octura .098 flex is what I use on my brushless Gecko and I haven't had any problems with strength. If you did this, you would need to install a rudder because the steerable outdrive would be either be fixed to hold brass for the prop shaft bushing or replaced with a strut. I think I'd go the cheaper route and just glass in a stuffing tube that will hold a 5/32" (I think) brass tube that would serve as the 1/8" prop shaft bushing.
