Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Just broke down and got a brushless super v27 . I normally run nitro and gas boats . Just wondering what can be done to get the best performance out of this boat . Any suggestions ? Thanks

Enjoy For a hobby that is looking for more people it does not seem very friendly to new comers or people who have questions. To answer your question, I found a 440/3 prop worked well for me while I owned mine alot of people also used a x642 prop. Lipo's are a great upgrade for power. Some say the stock radio is weak and should be replaced I used mine for a few months with no issues. A turn fin on the other side helps as well. Make sure you seal all the wood and grease the flex shaft. I would also recommend taping the hatch to the boat to help keep water out and keep the lid on when you flip it. |
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Hey thanks , I have a couple 440 props so I will put on one when the boat comes in tomorrow. I read through a good bit of the 135 pages . It turns in to more bickering between members than actual talk about the vee 27 !!! Anyways , I bought the boat to run in my pond at my house b/c my wife complains about the noise from the nitros and gas boats !! She says it gets annoying listening for hours of the bzzzzzbzzzzzzzz . Thanks for the input !!

RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Well, because I just went through the EXACT same exercise last week. I got interested in the SuperVee27 and used the search function. I found several threads. I glanced through them and gleaned a wealth of information.
Tell me why is it whenever somebody says to use the search function there is ALWAYS the predictable post whining about being told to use it?? BTW simple search using "SuperVee27" returns 67 threads about this boat. So why start another one asking the answers to questions that have been answered multiple times before?? |
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
not as predictable as the use the search function response.
So what you are saying is you could have saved the guy some time, but decided not to instead? I am done with this |
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
BTW - there are a couple of dedicated boat forums that have a wealth of information about this boat as well.

RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
hi guys, just ordered a red super vee 27....wanted to know about batteries and props...i have been running electric car for a few months which i like..but last week when i brought this turbo vee 3 boat from tower,i really enjoyed the long run times and the performance...i added a 600 electrifly motor $12 and a 7 cell 3000 stick pack which took the boat from a stock 12-15mph to around 20mph-anyway if anyone knows of motor that could bring this boat up to aroud 25 plus using 7 cells i would appreciate it...Reguarding my dream boat the new super vee 27...can anyone tell me about performance increases from using 12 cells and going to 14 cells...i also have grimracer 40x52 prop...what is the performance difference verses the stock prop....and if 14 cells are the way to go is grim racer a good performace prop..or is there a better one i should get...also what about the extra turn fin is it easy to install? sorry for all these questions, but i really want this boat set up right...ps sorry for all you guys up north im in southwest florida and we can boat all year round...since i lost my job a few weeks ago i have a lot oftime on my hands even take my turbo vee3 to the boat rmp where it lit up late at night nice and relaxing, only wish i had someone else to do this hobby with...it gotta be awesome to race boats in your same class performance wise...anyway since i just joined i wanted to introduce myself..thanks for any help u guys can give me

RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Here's what the guy who designed the boat had to say:
Its official.. Super Vee 27s have started to ship.. We wish you all good water. I would like to be the first to offer some tuning tips regarding your new boat. Please feel free to ad as much information as you might gain in your QUEST FOR SPEED. Here is my Grimracer setup. Aquacraft SuperVee 27 Entire bottom scuffed with red scratch pad (Menards, Lowes, etc) One thin cote of Pacer Z-Poxy Finishing Resin on all wood parts (#PT-40) SS trim plate’s .5deg positive to the bottom of the hull Strut set at 0deg Rudder blade tucked full under (stock shear bolt) DTX 3800s (two 6 cell packs) Added turn fin to the port side (AQUB7882) Octura X-440/3 prop (bag) Top speed… 38MPH (note: the wind blows almost all the time here, typically our water is loose) That’s it.. does not sound like much and to tell you the truth its not.. The SuperVee is very complete and it takes very little effort to get it really singing, Enjoy. Please feel free to post your tuning tips here. Like you I never feel like I get enough tuning in.. ROCK ON Grimracer In addition, he told me this a few days back in an email: GrimRacer wrote: "get a Grimracer 42X55 prop.. its a great prop for the boat. " Bear in mind that you need to sharpen and balance most props to maximize the performance. Here's at least one link on that subject: http://aquacraftmodels.com/accessories/prop-tuning.html Hope that helps. |
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
bashing people about the search function is an ignorant internet thing not an R/C thing.
FREE MODS The first thing you need to do to the boat is pull it apart. silicone all the hardware on the transom to solve any leaks you may have. set the drive strut to 0 degrees (level with the bottom of the boat). tweak your trim tabs so they are also level with the bottom o fthe boat (this required opening up the hole on the tabs for we to get them even). scuff the running surface of the boat with some 320-440 grit sand paper (to reduce stiction to the water surface). remove the battery trays (or atleast the front of them) so you can move the batteries forward to adjust center of gravity. charge and install your batteries, tape the hatch on with electrical tape (don't forget a small peice for the antenna hole), and have fun. Enjoy your boat |
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
I would not look threw 135+ pages for that info. How come every time someone asks a question the first answer is use the search function? Instead of telling someone to use the search function why don't people help them out and answer there question then maybe direct them to to other thread? For a hobby that is looking for more people it does not seem very friendly to new comers or people who have questions. |
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Well my boat comes in today , I will be running it tonight for sure . I will try the 440 prop on it and prep the inside so it is water tight . I do have a ques. though ...... People have said to sand the bottom of the boat with 400 grit paper for stiction . I know on real sail boats people have done this because the entire hull rides in the water but most boat hulls leave the water at high speed , usually only a small portion of the boat is in the water . wouldn't it create more drag on the hull by roughing it up ? I usually teflon the bottoms of my boat hulls , get them slick as possible and I get speed increases by doing so , I have checked by gps . Anyways just wondering about the roughing the boat bottom .

RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
I have my 27' race boat sanded as well as my sv27. it alows the boat to get on plane quicker and causes no extra drag while on plane.

RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
I see both sides. This discussion happens on all forums. The search function sucks, yeah but it's a good first try. But so does looking at the same question. That said: LOOK AT THE SUBJECT! Dude. if you are sick of seeing these questions, why open the thread and take the time to respond? My biggest beef on this forum is non-descript subjects like "need help fast". Did you lock your keys in your car? But in this case it was clear enough that one could avoid the thread if such questions irritated you. Now that being said reading the 135 pages (with a note book in front of you like I did). Will answer all the questions as well as some you haven't asked.
Happy boating. |
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Before I buy an RC item, I read through ALL posts on these boards, and use that knowledge to make an informed purchase, and I already have all that I need to know about upgrades. That also prevents me from re-asking a question that has been answered a dozen times. Try this. Subscribe to a dozen threads for about 6 months and count the times a person comes on and asks the same "What prop/battery/motor should I use, what upgrades are available, how fast can I go" etc. questions, and you will understand. Someone tells them that the question has been answered many times, and to search for an answer, and they usually get snotty and act like a spoiled brat having to do something themselves. Not always mind you, but a lot of the time. Some have even go so far as to say that they don't want to search, they jus want their answer so they can leave. Thes success of this forum is dependent on people reading,a nd staying, and sharing knowledge. Not just people ducking in to pick some information, then disappearing and not contributing. I understand Silent's (very nice, by the way) response to the original post, and I believe he gave the correct response. If you are on the boards any amount of time, then you already know the answer that will come when a question that has a zillion pages already is re-asked. like I said, sub to a bunch of threads, then sit back for a few months and watch what happens. You'll understand then.

RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
This was a completely useless post. Remember if you're not part of the sollution you are part of the problem. (if infact telling people to use the search function is to save memory on the server that does not belong to most people complaining of search abuse)
Now for something relevent: I balanced my boat with an 8" off the transom b/p and the boat was super stable and still aired out nicely. RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Hey sorry for starting a thread about something that has been talked about before . I guess everyone should not start anymore threads because every ques. about anything should be covered by now . So everyone now needs to search !!??!!
You know this is supposed to be a place that other r/c boaters can come to chat and discuss their thoughts , opinions and seek help and advice on things . I come on this site because it is enjoyable to talk to others with the same interest and try to help others with their ques. they have . I can understand when some times the same ques. has been asked and ans. but some times the ans. they are looking for is not exactly what they read through . I read through a lot of stuff on here and I also search for things but not always do I find exactly what I am looking for . Anyways I got my boat today and took it on a short run . It ran great . I did find a hair that was glued between the hull and the stringer . Yes a hair from someones head ! I am going to run it some more tomorrow and see what she can really do . Well thanks to all that gave some advice on my ques. And the rest ....quit bickering with each other and enjoy what the site has to offer and your hobby! |

RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Wow, that looks an awful lot like my post #11 above. That is where I posted the first post from the very long thread about this boat. AND I provided a link. AND gave credit to the person who made the post.
Oh well. |
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Silent-AV8R , that is your post...i don't know how to work this posting system correctly yet....using that grim racer set up and adding 14 cells what will happen with the boat performance has anyone tried it..thanks
|
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
Sorry, late and I was even more grouchy than normal!!
You can quote a post by hitting the "quote" button on the lower right corner of the post you want to quote, or you can make a quote yourself by enclosing what you want to quote in "quote" marks At the start put "quote" but replace the " with [ ] At the end put "/quote" again replace the " " with [ ]. As far as 14 cells, that will make the boat a bit faster. |
RE: Performance upgrades for brushless super v27??
thanks Silent-AV8R for the posting info, but how much is a bit 2 mph or more like 5 mph....i went on youtube and saw 14cell super vee doing blinding speed runs...i also saw one other 14 cell super vee u tube video that had a gps in it and it read 54 mile per hour...so im confused a bit on what to expect...any one see that yellow super vee a few blogs back with the air brush wicked clown on the bow...that guys boat looked awesome and he had many different looking hardware parts on the back...i wonder how that boat ran...makes me want to toss the stickers when i get my new boat and find a good artist...i wonder how much a air brush job like that would cost? anyway thanks for the help anyone gave or can give reguarding boat
