eletical water pump
hi
i am going to us a power pump to feed the two large motors and a two big esc can i use a battery that they us for electric cars 7.2 6 c cells for this thanks rye http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXDJR7&P=ML http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKWU6&P=0 |
RE: eletical water pump
I used this pump to pump water on anywhere from 4.8-12v. At the lower voltages flow rate is not all that great.

RE: eletical water pump
yes it would work Rye,but unfortunatelty not for long:(
These type of pumps are designed to deliver liquid for only a few minutes ie fuel pumps, filling and draining. I had one spare and wired it up to flush my water cooling pipes after salt water runs using a 6 cell pack. The casing got very hot. I wired it later using a 1 cell lipo, water flow was not great but ok for my job. Pumpmotor then ran cooler. I liked the idea of using a constant pump water flow through my boats cooling system but could not find a small suitable heavy duty pump anywhere. Modify your water intakes using a few intake tubes and then connect them together inside your boat for a stronger flow. Brod.. |
RE: eletical water pump
a AA rechargeable 2500mah or something lighter would be more practical for a boat.

RE: eletical water pump
Brod Jack, which pump did you use? Some run much hotter than others while pumping much higher volume.
I ran my water gear pump (have 3 of them mainly for my nitro and gas boats) off a 6v Sub C receiver pack to push water through a 25cc engine and header for 40minute long tanks. It lasted throughout the whole season, at half the rated voltage. At this voltage it was still able to prime itself. If the motor does not operate at the voltage required, it is very simple to install another one. The gear pumps I have use a ~280 size can. Ryan |
RE: eletical water pump
Ryan, mine was,is, a car 12 V windscreen type pump.Looks very similar to the first link in the first post.
Ok with low volts eg 4-5 V for about 3-5 mins. But i wouldnt use it in a large boat as a sole water supply means.I stripped a burnt out one a while back,it was a very cheap and nasty design with no metal motor casing just the plastic outer case holding real tacky magnets glued together. Yours sounds more durable.Do have any links? Brod.. |
RE: eletical water pump
I linked it in my post above. The only thing I changed was the plastic coupler for a brass coupler. The gear pump is built pretty solid, I ran some oil through it once in a while to keep it lubed.

Thanks Ryan, cant think how i missed that earlier link.
I must have been half dosing on the couch:eek: My brother has one of those i think for his heli fueling. Brod.. |
