Cooling

I took my Rio out for the first time yesterday and ran it till it could not plane anymore. The motor was very hot post run and was wondering if that is normal? Could a coil or jacket be installed?

I was looking at the cooling hardware more in depth and noticed that the cooling tube that is zip tied to the motor is very loose and barely touches the plate. Even if it were tight only a sliver of the tube makes contact anyway because the tube is round, so cooling is not that good right off the bat. I am going to use stainless .020 safety wire to attach the tube and spread a lot of thermal heat sink compound to see if that helps. If that doesnt work too good then I will try to weld the tube to the plate. Anyone else modify their cooling system?????? Will try to post pic this weekend.

Hi Junior,

Running a battery untill the boat doesn't get on the plane anymore is far from healthy for the battery, bring it in as soon as the speed drops significantly.
Specially the small packs, like in the Mini Rio suffer big time from 'extreme' low discharge.

Like JM said, it looks like there is room for a cooling coil, which will definately be more efficient than the single tube on the motormount.

Remember, it's a mass produced RTR, the tweeking is your department.

Regards, Jan.

Thanks for the replys! I think I will try to make a cooling coil for it and see what happens. Where can i get the tubing (Lowes, Home Depot, or does it have to be from a hobby shop)?

RE: Cooling

it'd be easiest to find small diameter thin walled aluminum tubing at your hobby shop.
