Electric conversion
We recently moved, and the pond near our house doesn't allow nitro model boats in it. What id like to do is convert the one I have now into brushless. The boat I have now is about 30 inches (hydroplane) with a .18 nitro in it. To be honest, all my other RC's are nitro, so I dont have alot of knowledge in brushless. Can anyone out there suggest a motor and esc that would work well with the size of boat I have? Im not looking to race, but I would like some decent speed out of it, and good run time too. Id also like to keep it in a viable price range, if thats at all possible. Thanx! |
RE: Electric conversion
How much to spend? How much run time?
Very Nice: Neu 1515 1Y (2200KV), Castle 120 Hydra Controller, x637-640 prop 4S2P (2 sets of 4P packs) 25-30C Enerland Lipo Nice but more budget minded: Feigao 8XL motor, United Hobbies Turnigy 100 amp esc $69 (needs waterproofing $10 for stuff ), same prop approx. , 4S1P 25-30 Enerland Lipo. Can you weigh the empty hull so I can maybe try other setups? |
RE: Electric conversion
Im guessing in the 350.00 range price wise, if thats even possible. As for run time, im not sure really what to expect. I can get 20 mins on a tank of nitro. Should I expect more or less on electric? Ill have to weigh the empty hull tommorrow, as it still has eveything still in it. But im going to guess 5 pounds or so, maybe a wee bit more. |
RE: Electric conversion
you might get 5 min run time depending on your setup

RE: Electric conversion
ORIGINAL: BACKEMF Neu 1515 1Y (2200KV), Castle 120 Hydra Controller, x637-640 prop 4S2P (2 sets of 4s packs) 25-30C Enerland Lipo I don't think the empty hull would weigh 5 pounds, especially for a 0.18 cu in engine. SHould be much less than half of that. This hull sounds like a AQ Miss Vegas? Do you wish to improve on stock speeds or keep roughly the same? Ryan |
RE: Electric conversion
Yes I was off in guessing the weight, it weighs just a hair under 3 lbs with the electronics still in (no bat, just servos and receiver) Im not really looking into up the top speed, but it'd be nice to get longer run times than 5 mins. Also, is there a good bobby store to get boating supplies in the Burlington, Ontario (canada) area? Thanx to everyone as well for you help! |
RE: Electric conversion
A Feigao 10XL on 4s2p running a X642 prop will put you near the stock speeds of a Miss Vegas. (hull I think you have)
SkyCraft is in Burlington but don't bother to waste your time. Order from Offshore. Anything north of the border seems to be useless. Ryan |
