Battery upgrade

i have a SV27, Right now i am running 2 DTX 3800, i got them when i got the boat a year and a half ageo, though they have not been used much, i finally got the stupid boat working only a week ageo, but i need another battery pack just so i can have a longer run time and swich packs after one runs out, towerhobbies has some DTX 4600's 6 cell that look nice. (The boat is already quick enough for me, so i dont really have any reason to spend alot of money on lipo's and a charger for them)

I have two questions though, what will i gain out of the extra Mah, run time, or speed, or less heat build up?

Also would it be safe to just get two 7 cell 4600's? I dont want to mess up my ESC.

BTW i am running with a x642 prop

Thanks

Edit: i made some elite 4000's on cheap battery packs with upgraded soldering and they are only 46$ a pack which is cheaper, how do the DTX cells compare to the elite cells?

RE: Battery upgrade

If you are satisfied with the speed you are achieving currently, why increase to 7 cell packs?

You may as well just go LiPo to save yourself money in the long run and headaches.

Increasing mAh should reduce heat and increase run time and / or performance. This is very true with LiPo but not always true with NiMh.

I would just want to upgrade the 7 cell if it would increase my run time or lower the heat, but i dont want to risk burning up the ESC

Only if you greatly reduced prop size which would just counter everything. In my opinion I was never happy with 7 cells vs 6 for the SV.

Thanks for the info man, i am just going to make a 6 cell Elite 5000 SC pack with upgraded solder and deans ultra plugs, that is not to much for the ESC or anything is it?

RE: Battery upgrade

Your ESC is only limited by current and voltage. Cells only determine the amount of voltage and you will be safe at 14.4v.
