i got a fast gig heng long boat from raiden tech for my birthday. The right propellor doesn't work correctly. It looks as though the motor is on backward. I assume when going forward the prop should kick water away from the boat not towards. I am having problems gettting them on the phone. Is there anyway I can fix this or know what is going on?

Hi Thor,

There are a few things that can be wrong:

1) you've got two props with the same sense of direction, normally one will be left, the other right. If you have two which should turn in the same direction to 'kick water away from the boat', as you put it, but one simple turns in reverse, you should get the correct prop.

A bandage would be to switch the wires on that motor, but due too the propwalk, the boat will never run straight...

2) The props are left and right, but one motor has been wired in 'reverse', that's something that can be remedied easily, switch the wires on that motor.

ok if i put the right prop on (one left and one right) one kicks water from boat and the other toward
forcing it to go in a circle instead of straight

if i put on two that are the same it goes kinda straight but a little crooked
are these motors able to be rewired like that?

the motor that is pulling the water towards the motor not kicking it out
try reversing the wires on the motor and i believe it will correct your problem

Yep, break out the soldering iron and reverse the leads on the motor, running in the wrong direction.

when i store it for the winter do i need to drain it completely?

No.

Depending on the brand, it'll most likely die, when stored without charge.

This depends also on the time it's going to be shelved, do a search on NiCad maintenance, there is a lot of info to be found.

Thank you all IT WORKS NOW... Hopefully in the future I will be able to help someone else.
One last question.. my boat takes a 7.2v 1800mAh battery i saw one on sale at radio shack that was 7.2v 2000mAh
can i use this one?

Good to hear it works after a small alteration!

Yes, you can run that battery, BUT, keep in mind, that every upgrade in battery capacity comes with longer runtimes, which means more heat build up in the motors and to some extend in the relays, switching them.

Going from 1800mAh to 2000mAh looks like a small step, but you'll notice that the motors will get hotter, keep an eye on it!

Should you want to upgrade to, let's say a 4500mAh battery, that's 2,5 x the original capacity, which will double the runtime, but will quadruple (or more) the heat build up in the motors.
The motors will overheat, and the magnets will lose their strength, if they don't burn up prior to that.
Watercooling the motors is a must, or you'll end up buying new motors, quite often...
