Hydromites, yes two!

I decided in the fall I was going to build two Hydromites over the winter. I built one years back freehand. it turned out good but it never was finished. So here I am...

This time around I found out about Lazer Works that has "short kits" of the hydromite. Basically the woods precut except the larger sheets of square balsa/ply. Eddy got me my order in record time. http://lazer-works.com/list.html and its under $22 for the kit, well worth the $.

The power source is the same as Dr Jets small stuff. The 3000 KV small outrunner and the 30A Mystery ESC. I dont have a battery pack or rx picked out yet...

Heres some build pics:

This is the wood thats been laser cut.

Wood trimmed and sanded smooth on the edges:

The start of the skinning. Beware you need 1 right and 1 left!!!!

Next step, the small sponson former:

Small size issue. The slots not big enough for the thickness of the material. You need to sand towards the center. I used a needle file and was done quickly.

Assembled:

Both frames:

I need to work on the exact position on where to drill/run this motor mount:

Hardware... I started off making my own but thought the hell with it. I want these boats to look NICE. So I shucked out a mere $34+ shipping per harware set. Including rudder, strut, flex shaft and all drive components EXCEPT coupler:

I purchased the hardware from "Head of the River" guy on E Bay. He seems decent but he got my order wrong. I was supposed to get one red and one purple hardware set. Instead all silver... Its not a major problem just more of a disappointment. However he did ship very fast!

More pictures to come.

Nice !!! I didn't know I could get a short kit lazer cut!!! I cut one by hand years ago too and sold it... miss it too...

So I can order one from the above link?

Nice hardware, I was thinking the same stuff!

I'd skin it in 1/64 ply, very rigid... Double it up on the inside where you can....

Cool!

.....I was also one, if not the first to skin the inside of the sponsons in 1/64 ply... I see it caught on...lol

Ya Lazer Works was awesome!

The shipping seems a bit high because of Fed Ex, I ordered another kit and some motor mounts I drew up and the shipping was only $4 more or so...

If you want to run the small mystery Outrunner I have drawings of the motor mount. Fits good with a quick buzz out of the mounting holes. Allows for good cooling and is still rigid.

Thats cool, I still have a couple inrunners around I can use... A mega 1615 3000KV and a chinker 3600KV 2pole...

Remember if you want to use Graupner threaded props, just drill out the inside brass and plastic with 7/64" drill and better yet use a 5-40 tap (for Octura threads) or whatever the thread is on the "Johnny" H of T R Specialist... stub....

Works slick! cheap props too!
