X-Power esc?
 

Hi all was just wondering if the x-power 100a esc is any good? seems to be reasonably priced.
Would it cope with 14cells and an ammo 2300kv motor?

Just the fact it's on the OSE website is good enough for me, as Steven doesn't sell junk.

I'd also get the software for easy programming that's available.

Yep thats the one, i like you thought it must be good to be listed
on offshoreelectrics.
The main reason i ask is beacuse its a fair bit cheaper than the hydra 120
witch i was going to get, and do i realy need a hydra 120 just to run 14cells
and an ammo motor?

If the X-power ESC is going to be sufficient depends on your set-up.

What boat are you going to power with it, what cells and which prop?

Keep in mind though: even if the cells are NiMH 4000mAh+ of a good brand, they will struggle to deliver the 60A max load the motor can draw continuously.
Low cost cells won't play along and die.

With a moderate set-up the ESC will do just fine, specially as it's watercooled. (I run a similar set-up on a 100A Mystery ESC that I modified with a watercooling and it works fine, as long as I don't overdo it.)

One of our club members used the X-power with the Ammo 2300 in his 33 inch mono hull with 4S lipo batteries and a 42 mm prop and promptly burned up the ESC. What he did wrong was the 42mm prop was to much for the combo. He should have used a 40mm or even a smaller prop to start testing.

If you plan on using NIMH batteries the X-power is a great unit. Yes, it can handle 14 cells. If you switch to Lipo then by all means watch your prop size and check the temps after a few very short runs. If you notice the boat starting to slow down long before you should have run the batteries down, you are overheating big time STOP.

By all means buy the programmer as it makes life so much simpler.

I agree that the X-Power is a good unit for the money but be careful and start out with a mild setup when going with Lipo batteries

I'm using one of Steven's 100A XPower in my Delta Force 25" Mono Knock-off "Prince" thread in this forum - It will be used in conjunction with 2 MaxAmp lipos 7.4V 3000MAH in parrallel. I smoked one a year ago using those batteries in series. So - Yeah - Don't overdo it. - Steve

I just purchased the X-Power Brushless 100a Esc with USB programmer. I have a PC but I do NOT have a laptop to take along. How should I program for the cell number if I want to try using all 2, 3 and 4 cells Lipo at the lake?
If I set for 4, it will work for 3 but not 2 cells. But if I set for 3 it will also work with 2 but what will happen if I use 4 cells but set for only 3 cells?

I am planning to run the same X-Power 100A ESC with the Aquacraft UL-1 motor and 5000mAh, 30C, 4S1P Lipos on a tunnel hull w/42x55 2-blade prop. Is this OK for this ESC?

For all ESC's in this price segment goes the same: check if the fets are in one plane and physically touch the heatsink (usually it's only 30% that do touch the heatsink, anything over half the load will make it burn up due to lack of cooling).
While you're at it, use the cooling medium that's available in a boat and add a watercooler!

Prepared that way it will power your set-up without overheating.

This particular X-Power is watercooled and has a thick aluminum heat sink...not sure about the placement of the semiconductor devices w/o ripping open the package...it is supposed to handle 100A...
