Hello Electric friends !

Don't run electrics, But i do run gas boats, The question i have is: I would like to put together a electric chase boat or if you prefer a recovery boat for my gas models. I don't want to start a debate over using a recovery boat, I just want to use one. So what is a good electric fiberglass boat for my application. I have looked at almost all of the RTR boats, I just want something thats top quality and don't need the radio. It will just collect dust. Also it can be a hydro, Because i run in calm water. Been looking at the miss elam that fast electrics converted to electric for $300.00 ? Also i have about 20, 6 cell nmhi packs so i wont go lipo, unless i have to. Also would like a boat in the 30 inch range. Any input would be greatly appreciated !!

I have seen these used before, http://www.traxxas.com/products/mari...in_ex_over.htm either with fishing line and floatation pulled behind to try and snag the hardware, or with a PVC frame work attatched to push the stranded boat in. They are not that fast but have a pretty good reputation as a stable boat, plus they have reverse, which may come in handy during a rescue.
Good luck.
Joe

My guess is that a cat would suit you better than a deep v, for one thing because you can use the forked front to harness whatever's stopped out on the water, and because you're running on calmer waters you'd probably go faster with a well sorted cat. If you've got the radio and cells i'm thinking all you need would be the hull, motor and ESC and hardware. As regards hulls i'd go for an MHZ....which you'd get shipped from the US, and which are reasonably priced - I'm thinking the Isiklar (1080mm), at 400 bucks should suit you fine.

Also with a hull this size the heavier NIMH cells will give you better stability. As regards motor i'm thinking that a NEU 1527 (300 bucks) or a KB 45 XL (80 bucks or so) and a Castle Creations Hydra 120 or 240 HV (540 bucks) or a turnigy 100 HV (around 120 bucks) should be more than enough to keep you happy...and possibly convince you that electric is more fun than nitro....;-)

As regards hardwar, you probably already have your trusted sources, so i won't go into that...

Thank You strokes, Sounds great, Nice looking hulls. I am going to get the MHZ hull in a cat, Was wondering about a cat vs hydro. I like the cat idea. Because my gas boats are hydro's and mono's and i would like something differnt. Thanks for the help, I think what i will do is call them for motor and ESC advice. :D

well hydros are generally faster than cats (yes before you shoot me down, I know that this is a super huge generalisation - but let's say that all other things are equal, and the water is flat), but they don't work very well unless they're on a plane. Now i'm guessing that with a gas boat in tow it's gonna be hard to get a hydro on a plane, more like a chug chug chug and the nose is under the water half the time. With a cat I'm thinking you could have it double as a rescue boat, as it'll let you abuse it more at lower speeds. Also, using nimh cells you're gonna have plenty of room in the sponsons of the cat, whilst with a hydro, getting the setup right might be tricky, particularly with a gas boat in tow....good luck, and let us know what you decide....
