feigao XL motors

in the description of the feigao XL motors, it says about max amps

example- max amps= 83

could someone please explain this because i am assuming that it means you need an esc at least 120a to safely use the motor

cheers (again) nick</p>

RE: feigao XL motors

that amp rating some give can be very confusing, i will give you my take on it.
what there saying is 83 amps is its maximum constant amp draw, not its max burst amp draw.and really that 83 amps is almost irrelevant
that motor depending on setup (prop, volts) can pull less amps or a lot more.
that motor can very easily pull well over 150 amps under load, iam guessing your looking at a 8xl for the 83 amps, i run a 120 amp esc with a 8xl but its a good quality one and my prop is fairly conservative.

cheers ozzie

yeah, its going to be 8XL running 6s with the turniggy 120a esc starting with a 38mm CF prop, i worked out constant amp draw from 6s will be around 75a

RE: feigao XL motors

no your amp draw on 6s will be closer to 200 amps [X(]
the 8xl is a great motor for 4s.
just because they say xl feigao motors are good for 6s doesn't meen all of them, its dependent on kv of the motor.
6s would give you over 46,000 rpm,way to much rpm.
if running 6s go with a 12xl other wise i guarantee all you will do is blow your gear up, esc fires in your boat make a hell of a mess and if its going in your cat hull (plastic) could burn a hole straight threw it.

RE: feigao XL motors

cheers again ozzie

i sort of figured that out, i have 2x 2s 5amp trunighy batts that i will make a single 4s pack, that gives me 31k rpm's

RE: feigao XL motors

thats what i run in my cat 8xl 4s 1p 5000 mah

RE: feigao XL motors

i'm going to 2x 2s (in series) with 10,000mah (2x 5000mah) gives me a few more rpm's than the motor i have now plus the old motors a keda motor

its always good to have a few spare parts (got plenty, motors, esc's batts etc)

nick 30 03-06-2010 05:17 AM

RE: feigao XL motors

what size is your cat ? what prop you got on it please ?

no in series doubles volts (14.8) mah stays the same (5000) in parallel volts stay the same (7.4) mah double (10,000)

in run a mean machine 29" usually run a y537/3 or for a bit fast but shorter runs a s215, runs in the low to high 40s depending on prop

nick 30 03-06-2010 06:25 AM

RE: feigao XL motors

of course it does, so what size is the props in MM's as i dont have a clue what y537/3 is or s215

i'm just wondering if the 38mm CF prop is to big, i was told metal props are 2mm smaller than plastic so a 30mm CF prop would be a 28mm metal prop

ozzie-crawl 03-06-2010 07:05 AM

RE: feigao XL motors

never heard that about props, 30mm is 30 mm, a y537/3 is a 37mm prop 1.5" pitch and 3 blades
s215 is 40mm prop 1.6 " pitch
your carbon props should be 1.4 or 1.6 inch pitch, more likely 1.4" a 38-40mm would be a good start

RE: feigao XL motors

there all 1.4 pitch, got the feigao motor now so i'll sort it all out later when i'm bored and done everything, will get the same sizes but in 1.6 pitch

Like what was posted in another thread of yours..
4s on a 8XL is good, 6s is to much, and start with a 38-40mm prop
I run a S220 on my MM running 4s

RE: feigao XL motors

hey srt, i'm getting so confused now, i'm being told different setups, the only agreements is what i have, i'm upgrading the esc to see what happens but then again, i might just buy a new hull and start again, i have a 38mm on the boat at the moment, what did'nt help was the batts were'nt fully charged, thankyou for your advice and i offer my apologies if i have offended people, we're all in this for the love of the hobby

RE: feigao XL motors

The amp draw depends on the hull type, the size of the hull, the size of the prop, and how many Volts one is running
Like my ERevo with a 6XL is rated at 110amps max but in reality it has pulled 180amps that I've seen on my amp meter, but I think it has gone higher still
also the UL-1 motor is only rated to 65amps max I think, and those who have data loggers have seen 110amp spikes and this is on a 65 amp esc [:-]

RE: feigao XL motors

i know from what i've read that esc's can handle double what they are rated for for a matter of seconds, i took out the esc i have in the cat and the bullet pretty much fell of so they have both been replaced

how do i read my meter, i would like to know how to identify the amp draw on the water and on the bench

the boat needs to be in the water and running to get a good measure of amp draw..
on the bench you just only see the amp load of the hardware
I need to get a data logger to see for my self whats really going on in my boats

RE: feigao XL motors

well heres an idea, what about sticking it in the bath and having a look at whats going on, its not far out then if things go belly up

I'm thinking of doing that, but the boat will not be on plane and will pull more amps than acutally it would be at full speed..
but it could be of some good info ;)
