Grease for Cable Lube
Hello all- I just ordered a "Aquacraft Rio EP" and the hobbyshop was out of 'GrimRacer Speed Grease Cable Lube" what can I use instead. I have been in scale boating for years and alwaus used car dif grease in my stuffing boxes since there is lower speeds (I guess I never had any problems) but have never had a speed boat of any kind aand that grease may not work in this case. Any help would be appreciated dont want to destroy this thing just yet [8D].

RE: Grease for Cable Lube
I would think a good bearing lube like you would use in a boat trailer bearing would work. BTW how are you liking the RIO?

RE: Grease for Cable Lube
I always just use wheel bearing grease- works pretty good. I haven't seen any wear.

RE: Grease for Cable Lube
Yeah, the stuff they use for wheel bearings on full size boat trailers should be fine.

RE: Grease for Cable Lube
Well thanks for the help guys...I'll pick up some bearing grease on my way home from work and use that atleast untill I get the grease I ordered from another shop...hopefully UPS has delivered my boat (wetherman was wrong and looks good outside, atleast here in the city) and I can head to the park and see how she does stock before I begin to tinker :D.

RE: Grease for Cable Lube
Well I got home from work and my box from Tower Hobbies was here.....wife not home so stuck here and no trip to pond so went out to my 24" round pool with the new boat. I have only had slow moving scale boat (scooner, subs, tug, a flower class destroyer, and a PT boat which was a little fast but a Lindberg model so not all that fast though). This thing can move, cvould only get it up to full throttle in turns but they were tighter that I thought they would be. Cannot wait to get this thing out into some open water to open it up, nearly shot it out of the pool. That is when I decided to call it quits......but neaded to get a little running out of my system. Already thinking [&:] of going down to see the guys in the metal shop and have them form me up a couple of thinner rudders for this boat for a better cut. And to my dissapointment the stickers are already pealing off, actually out of the box they were doing that.....so I can see a little shopping around for some pinstriping and a couple of stickers to change the look to a little more my own.......Well batteries are charged and I am out to try out my other fathers day gift....a Associated RC10B4.1......a bashing I will goooooooooo :D. By the way thanks " MsDarla " for the tip on Green grease picked it up on my way home after reading your post on my train ride home.

RE: Grease for Cable Lube
The Rio is a great boat...easy to maintain and fast in the water. My cousin has one and I do all of the mantainence....including greasing the shaft. He bought the Grimracer stuff along with his boat, but this thread has opened my eyes to other alternatives once this grease runs out. Beware.....if you come up against someone with a brushless boat.....your need for speed my increase dramatically......but the Rio is a great, forgiving, easy to run boat that should should satisfy all your boating needs for playing in the water :)

RE: Grease for Cable Lube
I know sooner or later my need for speed will come through, (why I got the boat to start with really :) ) My others are nice for a lazy day but zipping around the pond is just fun. Finaly took the boat out to the lake yesterday and I realy like the way she handels, , ofcourse there is some tinkering in my future with the boat but all in all very nice for a RTR setup. I usually buy everything in kit for just to have the fun of building it and in that better knowledge of how to take it apart and do repairs. And I know sooner or later I'm going to have to break down and go brushless on my cars and boats but for now I'll leave the lipo's for my helecopters and plains. Or the wife is gonna flip when she gets a look at the card statements. As to the Grease........there usually is something out there compatable to what the manufacturer sells for there boats or cars or whatever......just got to ask around.......problem is atleast near me there arent as many hobby shops as there once was. And ordering on line just takes too long when that new toy is sitting in front of you and you cant olay withit because the online shop was out when you ordered it (atleast in my case).
