$500 is a tight budget for a gas RC Boat. I would recommend against the one you linked - as mentioned - questionable quality and performance. While I have no hands on experience with that boat - there have been enough of its type come and gone over the years to know that you will likely be buying a whole lot of replacement parts to replace the low quality materials used.

Personally I would encourage you to check out Warehousehobbies.com (as already recommended). Very well regarded for service and quality - they actually make the original that the one you linked to was copied from. Warehousehobbies have some of the best prices for starting out you are likely to find and their hulls are tough as nails.

If you want to build you own hull, check out Zipp Kit's EasyVee!

I would definitly go with a warehousehobbies super G thats what i went with and its a great first boat if you dont want to buy one new you can find them on craigslist usually used for a good price thats what i did got mine for $300 bucks tore it apart cleaned it and put it back together its a good process lets you learn about the boat to JMO. Good luck
