QD-35 is powerfull , but VERY heavy.

If that is NOT a disadvantage for your hull .. go for it.

Yes and no - $400 is very low for a good motor. If the motor needs work it can easily cost more than $400 to have Quickdraw repair. Quickdraws are great motors but can be expensive if abused or hydraulic'd.

For what it is worth - I have yet to see the day a used motor (any motor) is listed for sale "with high hours and abused all its life".

A Rio is not a good choice for the QD35 - you will end up with control issues. An apache is not a bad home though.

I would recommend adding a few $ to that $400 and buy a brand new K30 or 29.5 that will run the same speed OR better than the QD35 will depending on set-up.

Why ask the question when its clear your not interested in the answers ?.
Zen 29 or rcmk k 30 will outperform that motor and cost less than your $400 in fact for $400 you can get one plus pipe etc.

Thing is that the Rio is not a solid boat. It was built to a price and not much beyond that. A QD35 is HEAVY - probably 3 or more times the weight of a Zenoah. It will break your Rio in large part because the hull wont handle the pounding all that weight will impart.

HP in these motors is going to be more a debate than a science. Fact is that you will surely have a faster better handling Rio if you dont run a QD in it.

If your determined to go with the QD then consider reinforcing the hull - it will still break - but might last longer. Also as mentioned earlier - be sure you trust the seller. A $400 QD35 in good condition is a rare bird indeed. A QD35 in need of repair is an expensive QD35. Last repair I had done to a QD35 cost me around $600 (5 years ago) - and that was because the spark plug dropped some ceramic inside. I am pretty sure repairs have not come down in price!
