Default He23 Big Bore / X-Can Exhaust

Just an FYI and a Question !

Have been running a Super G with the Superior HE23HP. Top of about 38MPH with a Prather 275.
Just installed the 34mm big bore kit with an aftermarket head cooler. Top now is 42.4 so it added a few rpm to the top end and cylinder temp is down about 25 degrees due to the cooler.
The biggest difference is low and mid. It will jump to plane now in just a few feet. I am also running an X-Can exhaust which has adjustable length exhaust ports. These can be manipulated to favor mid or high end boost. Still playing with it to get best top end.
Anyone else had some experience with the X-Can ??

Default RE: He23 Big Bore / X-Can Exhaust

I'm curious as to the difference in the performance. The review in this forum stated that a 230RC was standard in the Super G, but looking at the motor, it does look like the HE23HP, 2bolt jug motor. The more they ran it the betterit got. It reached speeds in low 40's. So with the big bore, you should get even faster speeds, and they used the canister muffler. You tried using any tuned pipes? I have a 20# 58"cat with a 260 that is getting mid 40's. I want to put one of Sikk's 35mm jugs on it. Was going to yesterday, but the weather and the water was so calm that I just had to let well alone be and play with it. I had my shirt off, it was so warm. Did you do any modification to the cylinder. and what kit you use for the water cooled version. You do it yourself, removing the fins, or kit comes that way? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm picking your brain to see if replacing a 4 bolt jug with a larger 2 bolt jug is worth the effort. Going to assume that the stock motor is a 2 bolt jug. I've not seen an HE23HP with 4 bolts. I have two of the motors I bought to experiment with. Any chance of posting a picture of the motor and the coil mount after it we relocated?

Here is a pic of my setup !
This engine is the HE23HP. (Air Cooled) I do all my engine work myself. To me thats just part of the fun !
All HE23HP parts will interchange with the G230RC except the pin bearing. There is a slight difference in the width of the pin socket on the piston. The crank is the same.
The big bore kit is bolt on. You will need to open both low and high carb needles about 1/4 turn from what you are running with stock displacement.
This engine runs best for me with the NGK CR8HIX Iridium plug.
I get mine from www.sparkplugs.com

Here is the stuff I used.

Big Bore Kit:

You will also need a new (Zenoah) pin bearing and Washer set if putting this on the HE23:
The piston in the Big Bore Kit uses the same dimension pin bearing as the Zenoah.

There is also a race ported Big Bore Kit which I have not tried !
Look around on Dave's website and you will also find a 29cc Big Bore setup.
As far performance all I can tell you is what the GPS told me. I am very new to boats but have used these engines on cars for quite some time. Sorry but I don't know anything about water cooled engines !!

Default RE: He23 Big Bore / X-Can Exhaust

I have an array of big bore kits.one from Dave and some from mJerod at hookupz.net. Got one of the Sikk 27cc motors as well as the HE23HP. I converted the 25cc to watercooled and in doing that Ihad to cut one of the coil mount studs off. I also put the 1mm stuffer crank in one of the motors and the big bore kit. I've used the wrist pin and bearring that came with the piston in the kit. I also enjoy doing my own mod work. That is why I was asking about the coil mount. Also, all the big bore kits, Superior and Sikk are two bolt cylinders. They can be mounted on a Zenoah block, but only two bolts can be used. Guys at Jims Boat dock have used the cylinder on Zens and were quite impressed. I dont know about longevity of them. The jury is still out on it. Gopedler on this board does not think highly of the Superior cylinders. Your set up looks clean and sweet and sounds like from the set up you described, it should haul butt. The closest hull I have to the super G is a 48" Challenger with a 22.4 cc a 230 PUM. Got 45 so far.

Thanks for the picture.
