Default RE: Installing stringers

The process that Dumas uses is the following;
Ensure that the stringer bottom has an angle matching the hull angle (deadrise)
Completly coat the stringer in resin to seal the wood.
Lay down a "bed" of woven roving mat that is 4x wider than the thickness of the stringer on the hull where the stringer is going to sit.
Before the mat cures, align the stringers, seated against the transom,with 5" inside spacing along their entire length.
Lay 2" fiberglass cloth tape along the stringer/hull/transom joint on both side of each stringer so that it is equal distance on the hull and stringer and apply resin

Has worked many times for me and no problems so far.

BTW, don't forget scuppers (small holes in the base of the stringer) to allow water to drain to the bildge where it needs to if you have a hull drain system. You can drill them in when you drill the motor mount holes.

Hope this helped..

No real set distance. The height needs only to accomodate forward engine mount method. The only other concern is access to forward of the mount for gas tank, balast, flotation, etc. 2.5" to 3" usually provides enough room for most engine mounting methods.

Default RE: Installing stringers

make a ply fixture that holds the rails at 5" or + a 1/16th inch and tack glue this together then wet out (saturate) 4 strips of glass on a large piece of cardboard with epoxy (poly resin wont stick to epoxy...epoxy sticks to all resins)
set the fixtured rails in the boat and lay the strips of epoxy saturated glass along the rails both sides inside and out pat it down with a disposable brush till all the air is out.
let it ("go off") and when all is dry and hard remove the fixture an ........You got rails
