Default Gas Boat from china

Hi guys.

I just ordered one of these boats from ebay to mess around with.
Very cheap, looks nice...at least in the pictures... Seems like a fairly ok boat to try out as a first gas boat .

Has anyone done any mods to the existing hardware/motor in them ?
I was thinking of getting a tuned pipe, instead of using the stock dustbin silencer installed, to get a little more out of the engine.

Here is a video of one with the same engine, and almost the same hull type.
Wont break any speed records

I have not recieved it yet, but here are some pictures of it I found on the internet.

From what i've seen these are fairly poorly built so it will be interesting to see how it lasts. But they are cheap so I guess you get what you pay for.

Keep us informed on any problems you have as I may grab one of these for my kids.

I got a similar one "The yellow boat" from ebay and it has the same engine as the one that you are getting. Ran it a couple time and it was slow, the engine had to be run with the choke or it died, So, I had one my friends in Competition Hobbies install some stringers, a Zenoah 260 and new hardware (the ones included didn't last a weekend) and now the boat its fun to drive and I'm amazed at its speed mostly because its a very lite hull and with some adjustments to the trim tabs it really goes fast (52Mph with GPS). And as we always do, still trying to get more speed.

Your setup looks very nice!

I hope at least my engine will run better than your stock engine

I got one too - the "Yamaha A-5" variant. As a first boat I'm really pleased with it, but you'll need to install a water pump to keep things cool when idling (or if your boat comes to a standstill a long way out). With the stock engine I think 25mph is about right for the upper limit, however if I get into boating the way I got into cars I'll probably stick a Zen 260PUM in next year.

Im glad to hear that you are pleased with it.

Im sure a tuned pipe could pull out some more power from the china motor. Also, maybe another prop could do some difference.

My dad got the same yellow boat. It was nothing but trouble. I was smoking it with my nitro Aqua Jet all day.
1.It took like 2 months for him to get it
2.Engine dosent run right
3.He had to BUY and install new servos, the ones that came with them were futaba s3303 standerd servos
4.The mount is prety cheap
5.Engine is LOUD. When he was runnig it I was at least a football feild away & I could hear it.
6.Cooling head is tiny

I'm not saying it's the best in the world, but if you have reasonable expectations then I think you'll be happy.
I started a thread a while back on my "local" UK RC site, and will continue to update this with my thoughts and findings (and tips for upgrading) these cheaper boats. I also wrote an objective review of the Yamaha A-5 so that others can make their own mind up. Take a look here:

Video of three boats from Loch Lomond last weekend. We're all running them in at present, though my engine (on the Yamaha) started to loosen up quite nicely towards the end...

Clearly you missed the "we're running them in" part of the earlier post. Expect full throttle running in a few days time.

Excellent video, will be interesting to see them at full throttle..... one thing I thought was strange tho, I didnt know they had blue sky and sunshine in Scotland...
A beautiful lake and scenery, next time I am in the UK I am going to go up to Scotland, My grandparents were from there, my great grandmother always said it was beautiful an we should go when we have the chance.. even after living in New Zealand for most of her life I still had trouble getting the accent tho...

I'm an Englishman myself, though married to a Scottish girl, and I don't understand a word she says. If you ask me it's the secret of a happy marriage!!!
And yes, that was our summer. 30th July 2006. We'll have another one approximately 12 months from now.

And I thought the "Miami Vice" soundtrack would fool everyone into thinking we were in Key West or something!

I also like the Yamaha.

I bought this smaller electric one from e-bay, and installed another motor in it....its only half the size of the gas boat.
heres a vid of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pusDxENmp9Q

Cheers guys. That Yamaha boat is great, and a I'm sure a decent Sikk/Zenoah will find its way in there soon!

SJK - I like your electric mate - it looks like a lot of fun - what motor is in that?
