Default Looking to buy first gasser

Well, I have the bug. I had some electric motors and a few props, (I fly electric) and decided to throw together an air boat. It was fun but the waves were a pain. I went to my LHS looking for parts to better my air boat and ended up walking out with a Traxxas Blast. This boat is beginner all the way, fun bun not exciting. So I took the 20 turn out, put a 15 turn in, used a lipo speed control with 11.1V lipo pack... now its getting exciting.
Thought about going brushless then thought, Heck no, I'm goin GAS!
So lets get down to it. I have $158 to spend on a gasser at the moment. I know $158 wont get me a rtr but if it gets me a hull
(Deep V or Cat) that would be fine with me. With that said, can you point me in the right direction so I can get to the excitment?
Thanks,
-Kevin

For $160 what would I buy? Hummm.....

Considering cost to ship it is going to be around $40 thats putting you at $120 so that makes it even more difficult. But if you go with the orriginal price & pay the extra you can get a good hull. Mono of course.

Quality basic hulls are found at Warehouse Hobbies, (Enforcer Supersport/Super G' hull), Aeromarine (Challenger hull comes to mind & can be found used cheap). The Enforcer hulls work well with the cheaper aircooled engines and produce enough speed and excitement to stay well entertained. When I came back in the hobby, I went with one from them & have no regrets. Some are selling copies of the hull that should do fine too.

Or you can save your pennies and move up to say AC hulls, Seaducer or a few others.

If you are into building you can build the hull from plans (available free).
There are a number of build threads on here at the moment, check them out.
If interested drop me a PM with your email for the plans.

Zipp kits also has a couple of kits on the go, maybe that could be your thing, again you will find some threads on these.

any way you shake a stick at t you are looking at over 600 to spend to build a gas boat or purchase one used in ok shape , if you buy a cheap hull and spend money on rigging it , is it worth it ?? id save all winter and buy a rtr gas boat ...the enforcer is nice , and there are many very nice boats you can pick up but you are likelyto spend 1000.00 on a rtr gas powered new in box boat ,

Ok, I think crazyotto has a good point, save all winter. But wouldn't it be fun to be building a boat during the off season. Oh well, geuss i'll suffer till next spring.

Building the boat is at least 50% of the interest for me. If you are looking for a decent/inexpensive vee or cat in the 45-60" range look at forabuck on eBay. Vern does a nice hull for the money.

Thanks, looks like I may go with one of those...if I can't build one.
