Default Waterproof Charge Receptacles

What does anyone use for WCR’s and where can I get them?

I’ve seen some through-the-bulkhead types with rubber covers on other people’s boats but don’t know where to get them.

This is going on a gas rigger and the pipe lays down low so can’t ( & don’t want to) use the hole plug through the radio box cover type.

Any suggestions so I can stop using so much radio box cover tape everytime I want to charge the batteries?

Thanks.

Artie

i never use tape and i charge my batterys in situe all i do is the old bottle cap lid stuck on the radio box lid ,the switch and my charge plug stay under the cap and all i do is unscrew the cap and charge the batterys and or switch on and off i hardly ever need to go in the box which is just sealed with a rubber seal.i made a wooden box with plexiglass lid but you could use any box you like ive used this method on sail boats and even scale electric boats hidden under hatches.just cut the top of the bottle off and stick it to the lid with ca then i seal round it with silicone as insurance then drill a hole for your switch and lead and fit them in then screw the lid on.

If you want to use a plug in the lid of your radio box, those are basically livewell drain plugs from fishing boats. Some attach a piece of fishing line to them and tie the other end to the receptical. Others put the power switch directly below the plug too.

Mount the charge jack just under the surface of the box cover in a handy place then drill a small hole through the cover just above the jack just big enough for the charge connector. Cover the hole with a small piece of tape. If you fold back the aft end of radio box tape it is easy to remove. You don't really want to leave the box sealed because of moisture . Remember --- THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A WATER PROOF RADIO BOX. Ed

Good point Ed!

I tried that and got bit by the condensation bug!

Best to store the boat with radio box open. I like the tape over hole idea!

Also remember for all you silicone users that as silicone dries it emits an acid that will corode your electronics, make sure your box is empty and well vented until the silicone dries. Another point is your batteries emit a combustable gas while charging, I know first hand of a guy whos radio box blew up in his face, took several weeks for his hearing to return to normal.
