BINGO!![X(] MART WINS!!! Thats where I fiberglassed over the tube to hold it down to the wooden support wedge underneath. It's been painted Black with Klass Coat Epoxy paint. The whole inside of my hull was sealed, and painted at the same time with that stuff. The first coat of Black was pretty dull.[] So I got some Gloss Black Klass Coat, and redid it. Brian

Cool and the prize is ?,by the way nice work mate,im just puttin a new radio box in my boat had problems with the lid ,one of the blind nuts was spinning so i had to break the lid .Not to worry i found a nice new tupperware box that will do the job lids nice and tight and its water proof too i checked .

Does anyone see a problem with using Krylon primer and paint with a top coat of automotive clear?

try it on something before you paint the boat,is there a reason you dont want to use car paint?.

Tony, Go for it!! Thats exactly what I did after I sealed the outside of the boat with Z-Poxy and finish sanded it. I went to Wally World and picked up 3 cans each of Krylon primer White, Sunshine Yellow, and regular White for the bottom of the hull. I used about a can and a half of each on the boat, so I coulda got away with 2 cans instead of 3. I used some OMNI AU, 2 part clear coat that was leftover from my Riggers paint job. That cheapo paint is on there forever now! Here are some pics after I took the paper off. I let it hang there for a couple weeks![X(] I had other things going on at the time. Then it was off to the clear coat guy. Brian

OH YEA! I painted the windshield with Metal Flake Black paint from Pep Boys. Had to paper and tape up the whole boat so's the Black wouldn't mess up the other colors. Kind'ov a pain, but it worked out ok. Brian

I have no way to spray laquer other than a rattle can and I can't find the color i'm looking for in auto paint. My wife is particular to a certain shade of purple! I let her pick the color as it keeps the peace.

No comment from BMAD as to the color

If you cant find the colour you want in auto paint maybe it doesnt exist lol,we have teTrosyl car paint in cans here and they seem to have plenty to choose from,i think they will also match any colour for you and mix a batch up and stick it in a can .Not sure what you have there ?,if your wifes like mine she will probably be a better judge on colours than either of us .Good luck with it mate.

check out an auto parts store like autozone , advance auto etc. they usually carry rattle can paint to match most cars paint codes. or if need be you could order it from them. i ordered a can to touch up my old truck and it only cost about $6 /can

Tony, I had the clear coat, I just don't have a compressor or spray gun. One of the guys in the boat club out here sprayed it on, then buffed it out for me. That wasn't free, mind you.[] I still have enough to do another boat, IF I get the inkling to build another woody. That won't be any time soon tho. I have 2 new hulls comming from AC Model Boats! the beauty of clear coat is ... it doesnt have to be sprayed perfect. even if it is ,it still needs to be sanded and buffed. if you mess up a little like, get a run in it, or a drip, it just means a little extra sanding is needed. A good trick for a drip or run is to use a straight edge razor blade and drag it evenly from top to bottom over the drip. if you just sand it down you will end up witha pit around the drip that you will have to fill and sand. Im not a pro paitner by any means , but i've painted alot from cars to bikes to boats and now r/c. its really not as scary as it seems. give it a try. jsut make sure to let the clear harden about 2 weeks before sanding and you should always see good results

can clear coat be applied by brush or does it have to be a spray gun?.I cant afford a spray gun but i see plenty of clear coat laquer and metal flake on ebay wondered how it would work using a brush if the flakes mixed in with the clear?.

yes the automotive rattle can of clear cote will work, im finishing up a paintjob on my nitro boat. first time squirting clear and it shure makes a hell of a difference

the reason you want to let it dry or "cure" for two weeks is ... the clear gets very hard when its had ample time to dry. in my opinion its made wet sanding easier. after you wet sand teh clear will have a dull finish to it, so you'll have to buff and wax it out. And also i've found better results with the cheap clear coat versus the name brand stuff. so give it a try. if ya got a guy that will clear it for you theres no harm... just hold off giving it to him unless it gets away from ya or you really cant handle doin it yourself.

How did you guys drill the 3/16" holes in the stringers to mount you're engines?

I have a dremel with a 90 degree head but I can only get a cutoff 1/8 bit in it.

All suggestions welcome

me personally i didnt drill i used a cuttoff wheel and cut slots for and aft 1" long same width as bolts so i have adjustability if i need to slide the motor forward or back.

I've dry fitted the hardware. Hope it's all in the right places, I'm sure someone will let me know if it isn't.

Now I'm going to remove it all and get the boat painted this weekend hopefully.

Hi Tony The hardware on the back of the boat all look in the right places to me, I like the covers over
the trim tabs, Did you make them? if so maybe want to make some for the turn fins and rudder also.
The build is looking vary good! almost as good as mine. Have fun this weekend on it.
