Hi Mart, the cat is 16"1/4 as it is, so that is not widening it Would make it 17" then.
On very rough water it does tend to barrelroll in the corners if it catches a wave, not sure it widening will prevent it.
This is one of the reasons the V2 has a lower cg.
But then again a cat is not for rough water, use a mono then

Woow, cool tunnel design!

Well something like that, but no strakes, remind you it is a wooden build, so not to many special attributes.
Here is a few pics of the V2-S tunnel, the large version will be almost the same [bigger ]
As you can see the mid section of the rear is closed now.

martno1fan;
That's exactly what I am going to do: Stretch the width a tad. I already altered the plans a little bid to give it smoother curves. I think this cat is absolutely a must to build. I hardly can't wait to get started. Need to build me a retrieval boat first. And finish my Hydro. She is about ready for her first coat of paint.

Hello every one, Thank you all for your comments and input on this cat build. Not too much done today, I just popped off the building board, I had it CA to the board, I had one part of the tunnel sheeting that did not stick had to repair it. Here are a few more pictures.

That would be great trying to squeeze a 35cc in this hull
I hardly could get a PUM260 to fit [more a height issue].
This hull has an overhang on the rear, but the sponson length is hardly longer then a PPB skater.
It's even narrower then most cats out there.

Maybe if I have saved enough I'll build a 1,6-1,8 meter twin in the future

Marcel
Hi Marcel
I know I am getting ahead of the build. I have got this PUM 260 Zen mild mod with a clutch that I would like to keep on it! Do you think I can get it to work? As far as I can tell the shaft will go thou the tunnel near or at rib #6.

Hi Harold,

A zenoah will do fine in this hull, as for the clutch....Why run a cat with a clutch? It's heavy and you need a waterpump also.
Also cats have hardly any control when they go slow...I would not mount it.
Also it will give you height issues.
My motor is mounted at a 10 degree angle and very close to the bottom, else the canopy has to be so high.
With a clutch this will be even worse.
Here are some pics I just made of the inside....incl. some repaired damage on the lid mount in the front.

MaxCorvette, what is the CG of your cat and with your experience with it, how much would you change it on your next build? I've got my plans printed out and I'll start the build later in the summer.

CG is at 31% and I will not change this on the next build.
Strut is usually set level, so no extra lift or downforce. I like a steady cat that is not to flighty.
The cat can run full throtle with winds to 5 beaufort as long as the waves are short and low, it doesn't like big waves.

Hello all, I started cutting and putting the sides of the hull on now. As you can see in the pictures I put some X braces on the inside of the ribs and stringers to hold things in alignment, got one side epoxy on, Waiting for it to cure so I can see how I came out. Hopefully OK or the build is trash at this point.

Don't think anything can go wrong the way you build
The extra X-braces should not be needed, but won't hurt either.
And with the amount of clamps you use, it can't be possible a piece is still open
Only thing that can go wrong is if the epoxy was mixed wrong, so I'm not scared it will fail this parts of the build.
I Like the way you build.

Hi Marcel thank you vary much for your confidence in my building ability. The thing that I am wondering about is the resin that I used; it was grate plains finishing resin, not sure if it will hold good enough.

Would have been better if mixed with glassbubbles or something like that, but there shouldn't be to much tension on this part.
Will probably hold long enough to make some thickened epoxy and use that to make fillets at the bottom and top support stringer this will only make it stronger and easier to glass.
I glued my whole cat with water resistant wood glue and afterwards I fnished it with thickened epoxie along all the ribs.
This never gave me any problems.

Every once in a while one comes to mind
Your build is looking great, being a shop teacher I can respect the time your're taking with your laminating and clamp use . Keep it up!

Hello,
Well the side sheeting is done and sanded to shape some what, the finishing resin that I used finally did cure, it just took longer then I thought it would. I guess the next part of he build will be fiber glassing the in side of the hull, I am not sure what oz glass to use! Marcel maybe you can help me on what oz to use inside the hull?
Thank you, all for the comments.

Looks good Harold!
See you made the tunnel sheeting a bit longer, that is very good. I forgot to tell you that I sanded a piece of ply to the correct angle to make it straight [vertical] so you can mount the hardware.
This will make a very thick transom. I even put M4 inserts in the wood to mount the hardware.
The V2 has a straight transom, easier to build.

Not sure about the grams to ounces conversion, but according to an online calculator I used 2.82oz glass [80gr] on the inside and an extra layer on the tunnel of 5.64oz twill? glass [160gr].
On the outside I put 1.76oz glass [50gr].
Hope these values make sense.
