Wayne what i do is i remove my cable after a days running and i have a plastic plumbing tube blocked one end filled with oil i then drop the flex into it and leave it till im ready to use it again it soakes the whole flex that way and i reckon it would run without grease but im not gonna test it .I then just smear the thing with grease and fit it into the boat .

there was good run in the small pond, I like that 45" cat. it is easy to re install a new brass tube to her, use the synthetice marin grease to oil your shaft, it won't happen again.
