Default Zenoah....the best engine?

This is a combination of a few questions. I am looking into getting an engine for a boat I will build or buy. 46-50" or so, is the Zenoah the best engine for gassy boat? Or should I ask does it have the best reputation? Where does it stand to Sikk and the other big name engines? And what does the PUM stand for behind the engine size (like 260PUM)? Oh, and lastly, what size should I go with 26cc or higher? Wooo that’s a lot of questions Thanks everyone!! –Ed

I think that Zenoah it's the most well-known in the 23/27cc gas class..
It's the most popular so you can find what ever you want for this engine..and the selling price it's cheap, spare also..

OK first lets not start the old 'what engine is best debate'[]
the zenoah would be my first choice only because of the value for money and how user friendly they are, They also have a lot of room for mods later if you need to in the size boat your looking at running.
PUM to keep it simple means its marinised (been set up for cooling water to run through it)

Hi mate zenoah is def the best motor for the money,260 pum is the only one worth getting in my opinion.Sikk i wouldnt get one because of the issues with the 2 bolt jugs breaking etc.QD motors are suposed to be reall good but then they cost a packet so for me id go with a modded zenoah every time.As for pum ive never really thought about it but i asume the m is for marine?.So are you moving on up to the next level allready mate ,id def go zenoah theyre reliable and a good quality motor in my opinion.

OH and the last thing the size I would recommend for your set up would be the 260PUM any more than that you'll be lucky to keep the boat stable

What I should ask what is the differences between a stock and modded
Short answer SPEED AND POWER!!!
modded motor has been maybe ported, flowed, raised compression, bigger carb, better pipe ect ect ect

Diif between a stocker and a full mod is about 3 hp and more speed, for specs it all depends whos done the modding and im no mechanic so ill leave that for them to say. What boat are you gonna build? no one has yet built Dougs improved version of your hull at least not on this forum to my knowledge, its narrower to reduce its flighty tendencies,he also has an offshore one which a cpl of guys have built including my mate Steve Marshall and mr Freeze.

I couldnt tell you if Doug has them id say probably but then he never had the tiled ones so you might ask Bentley or Steve Marshall ?.For zenoah motors at good prices are we talking stock or modded,if stock then Daves motors is reasonable as are oniel bros and whhobies. If you want modded theres loads out there,i like the ss mod but take your pic theres quite a few to choose from.

bullboy;
Check out O'neillbrothers.com. They have some awesome combo deals on Zens with pipes. I bought my stocker with pipe , header and flange for $299.00 and free shipping. Can't beat that. I also have a Zen fully modded by CC Racing. This motor is "da bomb". Go with Zen and you will never regret it.

the greatest deal for a new stock 260 is in fleabay, if you're running a good tuned pipe system, the power would jump up to 3.8 HP@15000rpm.

As an owner of 2 Sikk 27's, I'm wondering if the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. They can't take the modding that a Zen can and mine do have some other issues, mostly with their pull-starters.
Out of the box stock they're faster than a stock Zen.
The only reasons why I owned Sikk's is because the first one I got a good deal on and the second one came with the boat.

For a good price on the 260, we buy from [link=http://www.gasboatracing.com]Gas Boat Racing[/link].
They sell the new style Zenoah 260PUM2 with the 257 carb for $220 shipped.

i agree that a zen is the best bang for the buck, but how about this can of worms. who is the best person/shop to mod the motor? a modded zen is only as good as the guy doing the work. i've herd mixed reviews about a hanson mods.

Along the same lines as the previous post - I wonder how many modded engines are actually hand worked, vs. being chucked into a CNC machine- does anyone know for sure which shops use which method? I'd be curious to know how this relates to cost differences in the finished product....
