Default Gonna make my own crackerbox racers busts question..

Do the crackerbox guys wear a harness over their shoulders? Or are they just sitting in there lose to be thrown safely from the boat? I really haven't spotted a picture yet that tells me. I am guessing they don't wear belts since I can't see them over the life vests...

Harness ? cracker drivers "dont need no stinkin Harness" . and i am sure they like it that way. "thrown safely"???? [X(] more like sudden impact with a wall of water at 60 MPH. thats gotta hurt! []

all joking aside , i dont think they strap thierselves into those death machines.

Speaking of busts. My girls have their own personal floatation devices. No straps on cracker drivers.I saw some race at a real race and they weren't strapped in.The mechanic in one boat just about left the boat early when they hit a wake from another boat.

I have started the sculpting out of clay, its looking pretty good. I am not shooting for a mirrored image real exact looking guy, I like it to have some folds wrinkles in the life jacket ,suit etc. the helmet has been interesting to get shaped the way I want it ...honestly I made the visor pretty big, it sort of looks a bit like a space helmet.. Which is good because Crackerbox racers are always getting launched to the moon anyhow !!! ha ha ha I am really happy so far.. but I have a ways to go yet !! Actually this guy wouldn't look to bad in an airplane if you don't mind the life jacket vest.. I guess if you are racing the red bull race it might even be required !

As far as i know they did not wear safety harnesses most boat racers did not in fact not till the later years when insurance an safety became more of an issue
And still some classes do not wear belts as its safer to roll out of the boat

In my younger years I did alot of sail boarding in high wind, and I did more than one harness slam, or bad landing off a jump, I got the crap knocked out of me that way once or twice, I can't imagine what it would be like to get tossed from a speed boat and fly like a rock out of a slingshot !, and then have to hope nobody runs over you ! IF YOUR STILL CONSCIOUS !!!!

AAARRRGGGHHHH! I stuck the plastic to my driver plug and really messed up the front piece... I am pretty new to vacuforming and it showed this time...! I haven't trashed a plug this bad before though [] I will set it aside and go back to it later, man what a dissapointment.

Well here is where I am at, Unfortunately I lost alot of the nice detail on the front of my driver, in a mistake, and the result was I had to leave a layer of plastic on the mold to get a good release, thereby losing more detail. I am still having trouble making pieces that will line up really well when you glue them together, such as the front to back in this situation. I still need to do alot of filler and shaping work, but I am a decent painter and these will turn out pretty good when I am done.

I am still a little dissapointed though as the first pull which ruined the plug looked great, it had the seams on the life jacket and his suit, it really looked good unpainted, ah well ,,live and learn !

Well I had some errors there too ! Up front here were some big cross grain scratches I didn't realize I had, but I am just going to live with it I think. I brushed on a few coats of stain on the deck, waited a couple days, and just sharpied in the lines with a ruler.. It does look good in these pictures though..

Thanks, getting them glued together and puttied up on the seams at times made me question the entire project ! its amazing how much a little painting can dress up a relatively low detail part !

Larry,Even if I got rid of the Dumas cracker that they're in ,I would keep the girls. They may be the last of their kind.Haven't seen any of their sisters anywhere, people that see them when I run my boat really like them.Do you still have any driver moulds? You could probably sell a few, when someone is doing a cracker build.Maybe I'll try to make a mould of them.Where do you get the silicone for the moulds at ?
