RE: Radio question
Well it says FASST on the auction header, it says FASST in the text, the handbook says FASST on the cover and the radio says FASST at the root of the antenna in the pics so I guess it's a Spectrum
Seriously, it is a FASST transmitter, good system. The receivers he has up on other auctions are the 603FF, these are not quite so desirable, the 603FS are the ones you want, double antenna, one internal and one external. The receivers are unfortunately quite expensive[]

RE: Radio question
I guessed that was it, just a bit of early morning sarcasm.
Funny thing is he spells it correctly, spread speCtrum, not the trade name SpeKtrum. I spell it incorrectly in my post[X(], you misread his ad[X(] and all of us are totally confused[&:] Maybe they should have called the SpeKtrum something else

RE: Radio question
I use both the 603FF and 603FS receivers in my boats. Honestly I have not detected any difference in performance. The 603FS has a second internal antenna where the 603FF only has the single external antenna. In either my gas or fast electric boats both perform identically. Once installed I cannot even recall which is in what.
Having said that, for 10 bucks why not add the second antenna. While it may not be necessary, it can't hurt either!!

RE: Radio question
Like Silent says,
there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 603FF receivers, we are running for 5 of them in our boats and they are flawless.
yes the added feature of a dual antenna on the FS is nice to have but if you mount your receiver properly, there is no problem.
we run ours we the antenna out of the box but I have ran mine by mistake with the antenna inside the radio box and it ran flawlessly, I noticed it at the end of the day that I had forgotten to put the antenna trough the tube.

RE: Radio question
Mines is 603FS with double antenna, I did compare it to the 603FF last year but I was not sure that 603FF(I bought it used from ebay) had a problem or not, I noticed the 603FS has a lot more control range.

And to be clear, you are using the 6 channel receiver with two external antennas. You are not using either the 603FF or the 603FS receivers, correct??

RE: Radio question
Were these installed the same? Was the antenna vertical or was it laid down inside the box? If you were only getting 200 feet range with a 603FF it was indeed defective.
I've used both like I said and I cannot tell the difference. For SAWS runs I'll go as far out as our lake will allow, which is on the order of close to 1,000 feet and I have not seen a difference. FOr normal running and heat racing you are hard pressed to get more than 300 to 500 feet away from yourself. I love Google Earth it is an amazing tool for telling how bad I am at judging distance!! Your situation at the lake north of Vegas is unusual and you can certainly get way out there, but really how well can you see your boat when it is more than 500 feet or so? I know it's hard for me!!
