Here's another update, The inside is all glassed and looking good. I also got the ride pads and strakes finished today and ready for a coat of thinned out resin. I weighed the hull as it is with no top deck and outer glass work on it and I was suprised it only weighed in at 10 lbs. I figured it was closer to 15...... What weight glass cloth are you guys using??? I was thinking maybe 2oz or less.. I'm waiting for the hardware to arrive in the mail so I can get that mounted before I close up the top sheeting....
Heres a few pictures of the progress....

Harold, Now that is good news, I appreciate you helping me out. I need to wrap this boat up around the end of March and you saved me a good 2 weeks of work. I need to get the hardware mounted and I guess I can set the motor with stuffing tube before I sheet the top...... Let me know what I owe .
Thanks,
Tom

I was surfing around looking for a few pictures and ran accross a video. This is what I hope the boat will look like when it's all done... [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ORjZ8Dpa7k&feature=related[/link]

Well I took a little time off from the build this weekend to do a few other things around the house. I am waiting for some parts to arrive to mount the drive and rudder before I can sheet in the top side. Once the parts arrive I will get the top done and on to sanding and shaping the hull sides, then comes the glass work on the outside......
Due to the large amount of dust I make when sanding, My wife has band all sanding in the shop so I have to work around the weather outside, for sanding and shaping now..... I've been caught.....

The strut and rudder hardware arrived this afternoon so I started mounting it. It was a hard decision to make but I went with it inline just to see what the issues will be, it looks very scale like and I like the setup. Running in the water will be the real test for this decision... I hope to start the glass work on the bottom tomorrow, unless I decide to sheet the top instead.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow

Here are the pictures I promised to upload last nite. I have the strut and rudder mounted and the area over the strut is all closed in with a box. I have plenty of adjustment and can access the adjustment bolt under the transom overhang.....

You may want to lower the strut down where the prop shaft is even with the very bottom of the ride pads. Didn't know if you know. Just looking out for a boat builder.

I will drop it down when I get ready to setup everything. I had it high so I could see how high the box had to be inside to enclose the upper part of the strut. That is all done now........

Today the hatch cover came that Harold made for me so I decided to do the top sheeting today..... All I can say is Harold you do very nice work, and thank you for making the canopy for me........ I also got the sheeting down the sides and shaped it roughly so tomorrow I should glass the top on the hull..... Here is a few more pictures.....

I have made alot of progress in the last 2 days. I have the sheeting done, the sides are shaped, Added filler in a few areas, did all of the fillets, and I had time to make a couple of scoops for the boat from foam insulation I had laying around... The NACA ducts are all made but I'm not sure if I'm going to put them in yet. I think these 2 scoops should let plenty of air into the hull..... Welcome all comments or ideas.....

I find they look better than the other one's. I think they will work better as i don't see how the other ducts will scoop the air like these you made. A+ on the duct's.

Yes I like them better too. They are like the Bud Light scoops so I will probably use them and if I need more air in the hull, I'll add a couple of NACA's. I hope the scoops will do the job as they look really cool.......

slider46, your cat looks awesome. Is it the 57" version from Marcel? How far are you with the interior? Motor stringers, etc.? Did you make your deck in two parts? Since it is konvex it is a tricky job to fit together, isn't it? I like your canopy. Mine will look similar, but I am not going thru all the expenses Harold did. I build mine from blue or pink foam board and glass it. Then the foam core will be discarded. Keep the pictures coming.

This hull is from Marcel's plans, but I made a few changes to make it look more like the Mystic 5000 boat. The inside is done except for motor mounts and stuffing tube. All blind nuts are installed for the hardware already. My canopy is from Harold I had him make one for me and it is beautiful, he does great work. As far as my deck sheeting, The aircraft plywood comes 12" wide so I joined a strip to the side of it on a slight angle to cover the 17" wide hull. The sheets are only 48" long so at frame 6 I spliced 3 pieces again on a slight angle to make all of the compound curves... I made this all up as one piece taped down to the hull and glued it up before I resined it to the frame.... It took me 2 hrs to get it all taped down and pinned with tooth picks so use a slow set epoxy when you put the sheeting on.....

I like your smooth curves and edges. Mine will be the same way. My deck is basically done, except I have to finish a few more things inside the hull before it goes on.

If you look thru my entire build you will see I increased the size of the wood on the top sides all the way around, so there is enough wood to radius. The original 1/8x1/4 strip isn't big enough. Even 1/4" square stock is too small. Also I added a second sheet of wood on the sides to help build it out for shaping, and the transom area is alot different than what you have framed up... You will need to make some changes if you want a 1" radius from frame 5 to transom. Marcel's drawing are not designed for a rounded side and stearn like I have done. Take a closer look before you close up the top.......

If you look at my second picture in my build you can clearly see the wood I added inside the transom. I got a nice big radius. Could go even bigger if I wanted to. My rails are at least 1/4" thick plus the ply sheeting will allow for a good radius on top.

I like the scoops you made mate only thing id say is maybe they need to be further forward or your cooling air wont be actually cooling the motor or feeding the carb as theyre too far back. The air would just go in and straight out again without having time to cool anything, just a thought. This is the reason for the nacaducts on the other builds, dont forget whatever air you let in you need more vents to get it out.Usually 1 in 2 out ratio.

The scoop in that position are more for pipe cooling then for engine cooling/intake
I'm going to place this type of scoops on my cat, they are open front and rear and will suck out a lot of hot air.
I already bought them so will see how they look when placed on my cat.

Nice looking scoops Marcel, is there a baffle in the middle of those ducts? How is your build going? I'm doing the glass work so things have slowed way down.... Should be done this week sometime so I can get the radio box built, motor and stuffing tube done then off to the paint shop..... While the glas is drying I polished up all of my drive and rudder hardware. It's looking good....

Contact Marcell/Maxcorvette here on the site, he can hook you up with the company he has doing the kits. I think they were $85 bucks and that is the v2 model....... It will save you a couple of days labor.....

What weight cloth did you use and did you use epoxy resin or polyester resin? Looks good.
