Default MaxCat 61 My Build.

Ever since I came onto this forum and saw the MaxCat I knew I had to build one, After getting the wood building bug from building 3 Zippkits boats I thought I would like to start one from scratch, So here I go. First of all its going to be 61 inch long 17 5/8 wide 8 inch high = 1550x450x200..
Im not going for speed so just putting in one stock motor as Im more into scale speed which I think at this size boat with a stock motor I should get around 35mph/60kph if I did my homework out it should be pretty much on the money for scale speed. will see. Thank you Max for providing us with the plans of the Cat.. In the pics I had a lots of fun using my JigSaw.. Yeah right ??????? what a crap job... lol. but was worth it in the end.lol.
Not going to rush this build as Im still working on getting my other boats up to speed as well. Will update as I go.

That part's easy! Use simple math to figure it out. Not sure exactly how large the "stock" size if this is hull is as many members are building different sizes lately. If the original size as say 55" (I think it was) and you're now at 61, right? So divide 61 by 55 and you've got 1.109 which rounds up to about 111% from the original. Sorry, that's the teacher in me again.....school's out now, withdraw from my classes I suppose.

Oh yeah, LOVE these Maxcat builds, will be following closely.

LOL. I have the plans ready, I want to do one at 46 - 48 inches with a full mod zen in it. I nearly have enough cash ready to buy a stock zen to modify, but I think I will need to send the plans to a joiner to be cut out! You have more patients than me mate. Its looking good so far, can't wait to see it come together.
Cheers, Chris

I'll be watching this build also, as I usually watch all MaxCat builds that I know off
Some off the changes you guys make on these cats give me ideas for a V3 cat.

@Nooh, keep in mind that a Cat needs speed to run right, If you go to slow it won't run right, so you might want to make a bit larger ridepads on it so it will lift out of the water more....

Thanks for the tip Marcel, But really was only guessing on what speed the boat would do when finished. Will find out one day.

Take care m8...... Henry.

Only starting m8, long way to go yet.

Over the week-end epoxyed the stingers together so now need to build a sort of jig so can keep everything straight.

Looks great! I just found out my mate has a CNC router cutting machine thingy at his work, he is doing 3 sets for me, 1 set for myself, 1 for Kyle and a spare for when I break something, so I hope to start very soon. I will be watching yours very closely

Hey nooh, looking good mate. When I got to this stage with mine, I got into the rails with the die grinder with a small flapper wheel and sanded all the holes to the bigest size possible and angled all the blank holes, to take a bit of weight out of it.

Looking for a working link to the latest plans for the MAXCAT. I found one, but it is not in English. I have access to a CAD printer, and this is looking like a nice project for the near future.

Thanks

As I am not english the few words of text on the plans are in dutch, but it should be simple enough

Works for me.....THANKS!! I think I can work through the translation if I have to. I've been watching these builds and I may just have to try one myself in the 60-72 inch range. Those are some sweet boats.

Well I built the 55" version and I have a few things to point out about this size boat. First it won't fit in the back seat of my Lincoln Continental.... It is pretty heavy to carry and launch by yourself... It isn't the fastest boat I own... But it is really cool running it on the lake......I hope you have a pick up truck to haul it in....

Slider, what kind of small car you have then?? I move it in a Fiat Stilo...MW. fits perfectly.
It isn't a light cat but not heavier then the PPB skater used here a lot, in fact it's about 1-1,5Kg lighter, at least mine is...
open up the window in the rear and if the lid/canopy is strong enough, you can carry the hull by yourself and launch it.
That is the way I do it when running alone.

Hi Marcel.. A Fiat hey. best car in the world as the mechanic at work keeps telling me, Today made a sort of gig, added a big block at the back to hold the boat down a bit and really just started from the bow and went on glueing 1,2,3, bulkheads in place, will do more in the next few days.. Am thinking of using 2.7mill ply for the hull and deck about as thin as I get here in oz. Hopefully will be ok.
