Guys building a ppb skater cat and i have a topsecret skegged strut.
whats the best method to use press in lead teflon bushings or put the stuffing tube in all the way
then use the brass bushing in the end of the tube.

Lead teflon bushing is fine if your whole drive-train has absolutely nothing running untrue. It can not handle repeated punding as you would get with a prop out of balance. Brass is a crap wear material against silver steel or stainless steel and most of the time will devour your shaft with the lack of just a little grease. I have been using oilite bronze as a bushing material for a number of years and have shaft running 4 or 5 seasons before I have to replace shaft or bushing. It is expensive and you need to find someone to machine it but is well worth it in the long run.

Just noticed on their web site that you can buy ready made bushes. Might just have to buy a reamer to enlarge the 6 x 9 but it would work.

I run the 5/16 stuffing tube into the strut and use the brass sleeve, been running this way for many years and never had any problems. Just remember to use a good quality grease before each outting, and remove and clean and oil when back home. You should be fine with this application. A little maintance will go a long ways with these boats.

Go with the 5/16 stuffing tube through the strut and use the sleeve bushing. This seems to work great for me.
The lead Teflon never seems to holdup for me.

I have to agree with Bill on this one. Stuffing tube through the strut and a brass bushing.
Been running this set-up for years,no problems. Add an oiler in the tube and your ready to run.

I use the same method on my Sport hydro with the stuffing tube going into the strut. But I have a slightly different take, I drilled some holes in my stuffing tube that is located in the strut to hold grease to add extra lube when required.

I also use a what I'm calling a grease block that I added to the 5/16 stuffing tube.
I have not taken my shaft out of my boat for about a year now.
It probably is not a good thing to not take it out and check everything but I'm a bit lazy and the boat is running so good I just keep on greasing it up every once in a while and through it back in for more fun.
