Well, as promised, here is a quick update on a project I am doing for my wife : her Christmas Present. LOL. She caught on to what I was really doing but still has some interest in getting involved in a hobby I have loved for so long. Fun deal (and all the time I have spent in here plays didn't hurt
) LOL
It will be a Speedmaster hardware, RCMK EVO with a QuickDraw DeepVee Hotpipe (I loved it in the Mimi Vice build so much), I need to do a custom hatch and blueprint the running surface.
I stumbled onto a classic boat racing site and found some Betty Cook pictures of here 38KV setup as the KAAMA boat and she actually won a number of World Titles and is now in the MotorSports Hall of Fame. I thought the KAAMA scheme was just too perfect to pass up!
My wife thought it was a cool idea as well which alsways helps the cause. Anyway, here you go. It have been a slow

And now some build shots and updates...
It has been moving slow with the Holidays and work...stringers cut and installed, fiberglass laid down and cured, the running hardware installed, the CG measured, fuel tray installed, motor & t-bar installed, radio box laid out and the installation finally figured out (there is a TON of ways to do that it seems and none that worked well until this one).
I still need to finish electronics, get the pipe wrapped and installed, the hatch customized, and the hull blueprinted and prepped fro paint...WHEW...LOTS of work left to do...
Love the winer build season...

One more set of build pix...
The CG is set now at around 29% but will probably settle in around the 30% range when the floatation and final fuel is added. the Miami Vice Resto was at between 26-27% when all said and done with the WD200 Drive hanging off the back. It ran great but this boat should be MUCH lighter (I installed the stringers and transom plate on this particular boat) and the power-weight-ratio a bit more "athletic" so I moved it forward to hopefully help settle it down a bit...? We shall see.
I have read a ton of info on stinger placement here and wanted to make a note of what I did and why. SpeedMaster suggested keeping it on the CL and drilling the hole at 1/2" center from the keel on the race setups and what is good for the Goose, yadda, yadda, yadda... this IS a playboat but I will be blueprinting the running surface and using the other props I have for running and testing. All of which are Balance/Sharpened props from Dasboata. I have have seen first hand how much difference the right prop makes race-prepped and sharpened...so that is the way it turned out. If It needs changing; a RE-Rigging we will go.
The Rico Offshore likes this setup so we'll give it a shot.
Please post suggestions and comments as I love the feedback and tow brains are better than one! Thanks for taking a peak and don't forget to poist some build threads of your projects as well. Exchanging info and having fun is why we are here!

What a wonderful gift for your wife and a fine homage to world class Champion like Betty Cook. Betty Cook is widely regarded as having been one of the most successful offshore boat racers of all time having won two UIM World Championships and three APBA National Championships. She retired from active competition in 1982 and passed away on December 23, 1990 at the age of 67.
Just a thought paint the hull one solid color down the side and e-mail me [email protected] for the KAAMA graphics in gloss white vinyl and the race #89 or US-1, this is what I do. I can also digitize and cut the ram graphic on the bow and some Wellcraft scarab logos and even mercruiser and other race sponsors from the period. This is a real classy historic build it sure looks like you are on the right path. I hope I can help you make it one everyone will proud to see on the water and recapture some of Betty Cook's victorious races of the 70s and 80s.

LOve to have you do some stuff. Sent an e-mail today...shoot an answer back whne you have some details. That might work GREAT.
Side note, was able to get some more pluking done. Radio box, wiring, power and failsafe is finished and installed. the linkages are setup, cut and glued up. Using CF rods with 4-40 threaded ends from Central Hobbies.
Now the glass work...hmm.

I'm gettiing the same engine setup that you have. I noticed you throttle servo location. Are you going the cable route or linkage setup? If your going to linkage route, can you show your setup in detail?

I need to get it together tonite and take some pictures. I will be happy to...The linkage rod and ends are from Central Hobbies and the ends are threaded for 4-40 ends.
Works for me so far...takes a little more attention to get the length right and the throw 100% but it is a clean setup...

Jason Niemier here from River City Graphics [email protected] we are doing all the graphics for this wonderful project. I'm working closely with the boat owner Trey on the details and I must say this boat is going to be a real show stopper. All the graphics are custom digitized by me Jason Niemier personally right off the original KAAMA boat photos in Adobe Illustrator. Once designed as vector art they can be sized and cut in vinyl to any scale to fit any boat. Here is the ram graphic for the bow and KAAMA side copy already designed ready to cut. Notice the slight curve in the KAAMA copy to follow the hull lines. It will be cut in white and applied to the dark nave blue painted hull sides.
I got around to designing all the period race sponsors for the stern of the KAAMA boat and do they look just too SWEET!

Byron, here are some photos of the linkage setup. The rod is CF from Central Hobbies and the ends are titanium from the same. You cut the rod to length with a dremmel and then use JB Weld or something similar to install permanently. Pretty easy setup. The only hard thing is you have to be careful you have a stright run from the servo to the horn on the throttle or the rudder NO Z Bends here...it just take s little extra planning and care prior to drilling or cutting.
Anyway, here are some photos:

I think I found the ballance that keeps the peace. My hobby supports my hobby by offering my RC graphics for others. This keeps me from spending out of the household budget for my toys. Trust me we have the toys boats, planes and trucks a mans got to have his toys.

Give me an hour and I'll have you punching holes in the clouds shooting touch and goes like a pro leaving them third dimension fears behind forever. I fly 200mph jets one sure needs to have sharp skills for that no doubt. However make no mistake about it you take a twin RCMK powered MHZ Mystic hull down the straights with only the wetted drives touching the water you are definitely flying that boat. The thrills of working the throttles and flying the bow on an ever changing surface is boat heaven at any scale. Sweet poetry in motion as these hand crafted sculptures of fiberglass fly without wings. Yes planes are great but honestly nothing like the gloss paint jobs and sexy lines of sleek V hull skipping across the waves, which requires its own set of skills as well. I love it all.

Floggin, Thanks for the pictures of your throttle setup. How will you be connecting the linkage to the throttle arm on the carb? Keep up the good work.

What diameter rods are you using? Any tips you could give about rigging with them? I'd imagine it's just like 4-40 rod.

I think it is the 3/32 rod? It is not the thickest they offer, but the next size down witht eh 4-40 ends. When riggin, yes just like the 4-40 rod, but you must be VERY careful as you cannot make any Z-Bends in the length. They MUST be a straight shot. It takes a little trial and error for the right layout but worth the extra work in results I think...
