Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
Well, I pulled the trigger last night and ordered a
Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber hull with Carbon Drag Cowl and Carbon radio box.
Being built and will take about 2 weeks.
I have a J&G Full Billet motor going in it.
Question now is I am starting to look around to get all my hardware rounded up and looking
for some pointers on what strut/turn fin combo to use for the best power-to-water transfer.
Rigo at RC Boatworks says he can hook me up to talk to one of the fast local guys
but thought I'd ask here to see if someone can point me in the right direction.
Setting up balance point point and motor placement should be no prob but just want
to make sure I purchase some tried and true hardware to get the most out of the
J&G. I would also like some input on what pipe I should buy that will fit in
the drag cowl without having to hack it up unless it means sacrificing power, then
I'll start cutting. I am shooting for as close to 70mph as I can get, and if it goes over, well that
will be a bonus.
I'll be posting pics of the progress here as I go.
Here is a pic of a boat with the same setup I ordered (Not my boat pictured):

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
Beautiful hulls, my racing buddy has the same hull and has been tweaking his set up trying to get hull balanced right and running free & loose. I will talk with him and see if he is willing to offer any pointers.
* As for your billet J&G ... 70mph is going to be very tough achieving with what appears to be the older 2 port version engine.
Those older 2 ports made @ 4 1/2 + hp or so at a peak rpm of @ 14-15K. Where as the newest 4 port V2 J&G's will push into the 6Hp range at 19K+ rpm.
Not trying to be the kill joy here, just attempting to keep your want for that speed in perspective
Good luck with the build, will be one sweet hull with all that trick stuff installed.
Regards,
Scott

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
I'm not looking for a trick hull, I am looking for a fast boat. I didn't know that they did a
2 port and a 4 port version.
I am told byLyndall at Vapor Trails RC ithas a fresh rebuild byJ&G and
itis 6hp at 18500rpm. Max rpm under load is 19500
Just going by what Lyndall told me, but if he has no clue what he is talking about,
then I'll have him not send the motor out to me.
I thought I gave a fair price for it.
What is that motor worth with fresh rebuild and not run yet?

G230's & 231's were 32mm bore X 28mm stroke being @ 22.5cc engines.
Near the end of the 2 ports designs J&G did do a 34 mm bore also still based off the 2 port design which is a 25.4 cc. ( This may be what you have, but a bore check would be required )
** When zenoah redesigned the engines going to a 4 port design ( G231/G260) , J&G followed the trend building a billet 4 port at 34mm and 25.4cc's known as the V2 which was either a top end kit for SE zenoah cases or a full billet engine in rear exhaust application.
Just an FYI ...
Here a few pictures of the V2 that is the 6hp, 18.500 rpm version ( sadly not the same engine you have shared )
Again, not trying to be the killjoy .... just the educator []

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
I am racing with a full paris cowl (uncut) on my F41 stryker. I didn't want to hack up the cowl either, so I went with a Quck Draw wrap to center hot pipe. The expansion chamber begins during the last bend to go out the back so the header length is consistent with their other hot pipes. I have had multiple 64 and 65 mph gps runs in heat water conditions with a full mod zen and a Sly Cat Racing 6517 3 blade.
I must say that I am experiencing some hull envy right now...

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
Thanks Scott for posting the education pics, it really has helped out.
This engine is a 25.4, but like you said is a 2 port design.
It being that old, I feel is not worth what I am paying for it, so will go another route.
Thanks again, I'll be posting more soon.

Just been at this long enough to know in most cases when someone has an inflated idea of what they expect or think they are getting it is better to tell them what they need to know rather than what they want to hear []
Hope this engine issue gets you on a path to finding that 70mph + mark .... Actually sure it will.

Scott

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
They wanted $500
But, he thought it had been updated to a 4 port when it was sent in to J&G
I got refunded and now looking at CC Racing, Quickdraw and a couple others.
Any info on biggest bang for the buck if I am looking to spend $500-$600 ?

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
Lots of options for sure, modifing a stock Zenoah or RCMK will still set you back $450-$500 without the pipe. With the JG V2 top end at $375 and requiring a donor engine your near $600, modify it further another $200 or so making it a $800 engine !!
If not racing, a marine converted 29cc Zenoah big bore top end on Zen cases will give you maximum bang for the buck IMO. Add some mods to it ... fast fast !!

Well, I ordered a QuickDraw High Torque 25 side exhaust today.
Should be a runner!

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
I've got an "Up there" RCMK modded motor coming in the mail any day now that I bought from Lakefront Livin. A budget of $5-600.00 will get you a nicely modded mill from a lot of reputable modders.
Scoptt doesn't sugar-coat anything and that's what I like about him. If you want the truth, you're going to get it from him.

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
Rigo called me and said my hull was in the mold and would be shipping out sometime next week.
There was some confusion between us about which cowl I wanted and he molded the
Drag cowl and I wanted the Paris Cowl.
So I am having him send me both.
Drag Cowl...

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
Like Scott said,
The flex shaft on my F-41 Striker is exactly 18" (including the stub shaft), so get the next one up.
Depending on who you get them from the next length may vary, since NFS is an hour from me I get them from him and the length is 21", but 24" is fine.

RE: Stryker Cat Carbon Fiber Build
Cool!
24" and trim to fit then it is.
Now, I am leaning towards Propblast water pickup and a slingshot rudder with the 1 5/8" setback.
From what I come up with, that seems to be the best handling and fastest setup.
Agree?
