gas boat size
hey all, just wondering what do you guys think is the minimum lenght of the hull for gasoline use. One of my projects requires the boat must be 32" in length. Is that too small for say a small weed eater engine. Thanks

RE: gas boat size
What's the beam? Fiberglass or plsatic hull? These will be part of the deciding factors.

RE: gas boat size
max beam allowed is 10 inches yet i dont plan on making mine that wide and yes fiberglass.

RE: gas boat size
32 x 10 should be easy !! I have one thats around 24" with a barebones Zenoah going in and canister muffler.
If you place a Zen on a board and draw around it you will see it is easy enough to fit into a 32 inch length (even with a surface drive). |
RE: gas boat size
Ok thanks ill have to look for a good deal on a motor now. I dont think im going to use a zenoah too expensive for this boat. Im gonna have to check the weight though, trying to make this as light as possible. Then again I got a set of crackerbox plans hmmmm maybe I should go all out on that lol. I better get started on that R.I.B. first. Ron I found some inboard R.I.B.'s I think I might go with a setup like that and use a bicycle inner tube as the inflatable section. Im gonna cut it then seal the ends up with a patch kit so Ill have it go all around the hull except the back. That might be crazy enough to work.

Maybe you should look for one of those gas outboards shown on the large tunnel hull post. What was I thinking, it's a QD outdrive, that outdrive is probably $1000.00. Nevermind.

RE: gas boat size
you know those weed trimmers that have accessories that all run off the motor like you can have an edger, chainsaw, rototiller, somebody is making a kit with a prop that turns your trimmer into an outboard motor, well..... its interesting and different

RE: gas boat size
Yeah, something like that...

RE: gas boat size
lol you know it

RE: gas boat size
if your builing from plans you could probably have them blown up larger or just do the math yourself.
