72" PI cat build

Under strict guidance from our very own JAW This build will go something like this. Inline full mod zenoah on the tunnel, but the motor will face backwards! connected to a mod MH$ gear drive ill be feeding the 2 surface drives and 6717 5 blade CR prop set from Dasboata! right now the hull is off to get cleaned and painted, when she gets back ill lay all the CF down to pretty up the inside. Ill need to order a HPR scale rudder and hydraulic linkage set. All in all this is the build iv been waiting for this year!

That's a sweet looking hull. Is the MH$ drive going to function like a V-drive?

Why did you not choose to wait until built for paint?

Hope you have fun:D

RE: 74" PI cat build

Yes the drive will act as a V drive, Interesting ideas crawl out of JAW's head at just the right moments, this idea is one of them!

I want the hull painted because my painter goes out of town for a car show in 2 weeks, and wont be back for 4 weeks.

I went shopping today for parts and here is what i came up with.

2 x Zenoah G260PUM full mod with 257 carbs
2 x Headers
2 x Watercooled flange
2 x header clamp
2 x Aeromarine Collet 1/4"
2 x 2" band pipes
3 x silencer
2 x Billet carb spacer

total 1224.70

And i still need to buy a new Nomadio React radio for this boat, I have servos and the rest of the parts ill need. Only thing im waiting on is the sonic racing engine coupler!

Here is a pic of Tims gearbox that he modified for a similar sized cat for a forward motor install. As you can see he also upgraded the bearings in the box also (think he paid $180 for ceramic bearings for it though not sure where he sourced them).

She is going to be something to see. Hope you will keep us in pictures along the way ;)

got any updates?

RE: 72" PI cat build

Updates? there wont be anything until the boat gets back from paint in 2 week's... Nothing i can do until then except wait for parts to show up, made a mistake when I placed my motor order from bonzi, i got 3 full mod 260's not 2, Guess I have a spare now. The only pest i have with bonzi is the fact there sales team has no idea about the all mighty zenoah.. seen they had a few new jugs on ebay so i was going to buy them, sent a message asking if it was a 260 or a 231 jug, because the auction said for 231/260. They said its for both motor's there is no bore diff, its the stroke thats diff... I was quick to provide download links for the data sheets.

In line kit is on the way to JAW to be prepped for the new full mod zens i have sitting here, EC Birt got me the carbs back today, there prepped for 30% nitro and looking good, there being taken to the polisher monday, along with the motor's and some small part's, the arneson drives will get a polish but im ordering the carbon fiber unit's from Swiss model power boat. I also bought a new gear box for the boat and got a custom set of motor mounts on the way, look's like im a month away from starting the build with the boat painted up and looking good she should be ready to hit the water hard next spring! Ill tune all winter until i feel good, then ill lean it out next spring and get some times!

I think I would tend to agree. The SMBT do offer a smaller Arneson drive that may be up to the task. Another consideration is having the vertical support in a location that will work. I was thinking of mounting some RCMK Arnesons to my PI cat but looking at it - will likely need to fabricate some mounts for the verticles to mount to. I will try to shoot you come pics as well as measure the 2,33 Arnesons on my fountain.

Hmm now thats a bummer... Looks like im sticking with the alloy units i have now. Thanks for the heads up..man i would have been a little sad when they got here and didn't fit. I had to build some spacers for my drives i have now, about 3/8" worth of spacer.

I think I saw it painted somewhere, or did I dream that. Pretty cool (scary) paint job, big dark central theme.

Edited: Sorry, I dreamt it, or rather made a mix up, I have not seen it, cant wait to se it though.

Punk? you have quite obviously mistaken me for a higher life form, I Sir am that green stuff that floats on the top of pond's.. Just remember... I could tell every one if they want to see it they have to come to vegas so that can drive it to... but that would be just rude. ;)
