gas mix

i have some 18:1 (8 oz oil) mixed for my rio, but will i hurt a homelite that calls for 50:1 (2.6 oz oil)?

RE: gas mix

It wont hurt it to run that much oil. Might foul the plug.

RE: gas mix

thanks :) cool that's what i thought. it's that time of year now. gotta fire up the leaf blower, and don't want to mix anymore fuel especially since i'll only need a tank or 2.

RE: gas mix

More oil = more power, helps seal the rings better without added friction.

Hmmmmmmmmmm diesel?

i got a homie to run on Ether and kerosene, a tad smoky though:D

RE: gas mix

your motors will last a lot longer by using more oil.i wouldn't ever use 2.6 oz.per gallon of gas.that is very risky.you might end up with scored pistons and cylinder walls6-8 oz.per gallon of gas is very safe to use in any 2 stroke motor

doomracing 11-07-2008 12:07 PM

RE: gas mix

well if i remember correct the manual for the blower called for 50:1/2.6 oz. i'll have to look for the manual, and check. i'll use the 18:1/8 oz i have mixed.

RE: gas mix

your right most weedy motors use 50/1 mix, mine did but when i put it in a boat i ran 20/1 just to be safe.

martno, holy sh, we agree on something.how can that be.

man was it a bear to start, and keep running till she got to running temps. when warm she ran great.

Could you explain how more oil is going to make more power.

MrMikeG 11-07-2008 07:49 PM

RE: gas mix

I already did!
Dyno proven too, these are not high compression engines!

yamahatech 11-07-2008 07:57 PM

RE: gas mix

Adding more oil is not going to increase compression.

Does anyone use Yahmalube? I buy it in by the gallon for my yahama 2 stroke outboard. It is said to be the best for outboards, would it be ok to use this on a unmodded zen 260?

If you had a height rpm and hp mod engine, the best oil ratio is 10 ounces per one gallon gas fuel, some of the engine could reach 20000-21000rpm or even more on the speed test running, you will need the good enough oil to protect the whole thing that includes its power, rpm and the engine.

We are talking about a leaf blower here.

So I suppose when your doing a compression test at work you do it with a dry cylinder?
:)

LOL...sorry man but I actually use the same oil ratio on my 2 year old 2 stroke leaf blower and it ran pretty strong like it was new and seems to blow more air out.

Pretty much yes. There is enough residual oil in the motor so technically its not really dry. But now we are talking about static compression.

if you want to hear stodgy and dusty, "i've been told oil does not produce power"

mowerman88 11-07-2008 11:11 PM

RE: gas mix

you are right oil does not make power but it frees up enough friction so the engine can make all the power it is supose to and not run to hot ,i run a toxic full mod and allen at toxic recomends 8 ozs per gallon amsoil 10 of most others and his engines turn 19000rpm and produce 6.5+hp@17200

RE: gas mix

I'm not sure about more oil making more power?i do know that not enough oil is real bad news,if you like your motor ,give it some lubrication,it will last a long time.i never had a motor freeze up yet.i just like being on the safe side on the oil thing

jacob711 11-08-2008 02:56 AM

RE: gas mix

more oil makes more power, i have seen dynographs for a gas cmb35 and more oil made more power, like Mike said more oil helps to seal up the single ring pistons better and reduce blowby and increase compression while giving more lubrication letting things move more freely
