New toy on the way!!! - 72" MHZ Reckless

I was able to convince the wife that we (I) need another boat :)

Picked up a great deal on a boat I had seen (in photos) over the years. Originally built (believe by Thomas) in Germany for MHZ, run as a demo boat before being shipped to the US and sold by MHZusa. Believe it went for $9600 and remember seeing it on the site (think I saved the page somewhere).

Heres some pics of her being built (I have had these pics for a year or two) as well as a few others. http://imageevent.com/justaddwata/mo...ermany/recless
She is a 72" MHZ Reckless with twin Zens running counter rotating S6 drives.

She should arrive next week. Been a long while since I purchased a boat. Nice to be an expectant father :D

When I saw the price drop on this I took another look but it's a bit much for a newbie like me, plus my plate is already full with work and home life. However, I just knew it was going to be too much temptation for you! I take it the Miss Geico is also now securely at home in the basement?

PS I've got a new Demon Hydro to play with. It will be on it's way Monday.

Both exhausts vent out the front of the hull? Mod motors or stock? Seems to ride bow high, is that normal?

She was a good price to start but when he halved the price I had to bite.

Zens I believe are stock. I will see how she goes and will consider tweaking or swapping them out. I would say stock should be pretty good though.

She looks to be a little light in the bow. I am not sure how she really handles - only seen pics of her. But I imagine if it is light in the nose it an easy fix (much easier than heavy in the nose!!)

I have yet to start finishing my basement and give the boats some better accommodations than they currently have. Geico is home for now. I am not sure she will be leaving anytime soon in this economy.

I am interested in hearing your thoughts on the Demon Marcel. I was tempted to try one out and have not heard much feedback on them as yet.

To be honest I was really looking for a nice cat. I haven't been able to purchase a decent one. Many have come up but either timing or an unwillingness on the vendors part have prevented me from being able to complete a deal. As a back up I had been eyeballing the Demon since it hit the market. 40% of a new boat is tough to turn down. Not sure how much use I'm going to be able to get out of it this summer but I'll be sure an let you know how it goes.

I appreciate the feedback guys

:) I hope she does not read your post Scoot. I was counting on her to shoot some video and pictures for me.

Only problem with naming the boat K8 is that K9 comes next. :D

I will try to dig up my on-board cameras and get some different footage. I am long overdue in boating this season [&o]

Nice Matt that's a very cool boat. I would like to see that running.

72" hull stock engines looks like it runs fine in pic's .

Good luck with your new boat.

Steve

Nice Matt! Very interesting build and a one off.

When I first saw that boat a couple years ago I wondered about the forward facing exhaust. I determined that from a design aspect the exhaust headers could be balanced out the same, the boat should be quiter and free up some much needed room in the back half. But the possibility of the exhaust outlets can act as water scoops filling the engines if and when you needed to cut the engines. I'm not knocking it, I really like the boat!

I know what you mean - I had similar thoughts when I first saw it - particularly exiting on the running surface. I will take a look (and pics) and let you know if the exhaust is facing rearward. I am a proponent of running pipes forward rather than hacking up a scale sport boat. Though would not have thought it the only option on a hull this size.

Nice boat...you dirty dog!!! When I saw it drop it was all I could do not to pull the trigger...BUt that would lead to the locks being changed for sure! ;)

Keep us posted on how she runs with stock Zens when it arrives. VERY nice boat!!!

K9 as in you're gonna be in the doghouse? :D
I had a heckuva time trying to talk momma into letting me buy a trailer and I may go shopping for one in the AM. All I had to do was leave a couple of gas boats with weeping IV bags in the SUV overnight. She sure wasn't going to drive it and light up a smoke in there! [X(]

LOL, I think we all share that common trait !

After I opened the box and got the lid on my Old School Magnum 57 I had pics posted within 10 min

8am fedex man was at the door. Box was beat up but did its job. I asked the fedex guy to stick around while I check the hull over for damage (I highly recommend this!!) - in all she was tip top.

This thing is solid. No lightweight. I would guess 55 pounds. Hatch is probably 4 pounds (I will weigh it) but fits like no other.

I took a few pics of the inside of the pipe setup. Not quite what I had thought but it is showing zero signs of heat or cracking and the boat has certainly done some hours (though mint).

Individual servo's for each throttle? Circuit boards are for engine kill guard?

Individual servo's for each throttle? Circuit boards are for engine kill guard?
I have yet to go back and tinker with it. Believe 2 steering and 2 throttle servos. Not sure if it is a low battery guard or EKG. There are also lights that somehow are wired up. Theres wires that run into the drivers plus port and starboard lights that the seller provided. Not sure I will worry about getting the lights working though.

This is a large hull. Canoe still massive in comparison. I hope to run her this weekend. Will see if I can get someone to video it for me.
