Hi There Daz and Chris!
No I have not run this one yet- just starting to fit it out this week. Not sure what engine to run yet. I have a new mod 26 on the shelf but may go a 29. I will keep you posted!

Hi guys, finally got the video editing finished, with the help of my eldest daughter, who showed me how to actually do it. When watching it, you may see a slight smokey looking haze on the screen at times. I didn't realize until I got home, that my youngest one had put her finger prints on the lens. Nevermind, still looks good and can see plenty, and Danny(sonic) did the camera work for me.

Hope you guys like it - http://youtu.be/7HloryBs0uU

Cheers

RE: GAS F1 INBOARD TUNNEL HULLS

It's coming along Daz ;) how's your silver tunnel going? I have a few other boats keeping me busy among other things. I have some new props to try on my ob and a new pipe on the way. I want to try and break 90 km with the stock 26 before I put the mod 26 on I have sitting there for the ob. I don't think I was to far of last time I went out.

RE: GAS F1 INBOARD TUNNEL HULLS

Hi Dion
you mean my IB tunnel ??,crashed it at a race last yr,hit a buoy trying to avoid dead boat and miss jugded it
damage to satr with didnt look bad at 1st but upon further inspection was worse than thought so decided to build the new 1 and make some improvements while at it
Sounds like you got a couple of projects on the go aswell

F1madness 09-15-2013 07:24 AM

How's the inboard F1's
Anybody building or upgrading or new builds ??
Let's see what your upto ;)

kochj 09-18-2013 03:53 PM

Hey guys...
I was wondering if you could give some advice:

Would like to make a inboard Formula1 tunnel. what hardware is available to do this (rudder, prop rigger ect)
What class would you race this boat in???

Thanks..

you can use strut and offset rudder like used on a cat setup
http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/DSC01983.jpg
Inline strut and rudder (see pics)

or you could use a stern/steerable drive like in the pics

Hey Daz,

Well that doesn't sound to good mate, but I hope you have a positive and speedy recovery. I myself may have to get surgery on my lower back too, seeing specialist very soon.

Yep, all painted and ready to go, thought I had posted pictures of it before, but went back through and noticed I hadn't. Actually haven't been on the forum for few weeks now, but will post up pictures later tonight.

Cheers
Chris

It's great to read on threads about gas OB's and IB's...thanks Australia,UK ,New Zealand, South Africa, etc. for keeping interest going for those who really dig the tunnel classes...we are few !!! Now, I must vent a bit about the good ole' USA... WHERE ARE YOU WHEN WE NEED YOU !!! I have pushed outboards from the Fuji engines / K&B's (in all the classes) to gas tunnels for over 45 years ! The nitro hulls are still on the dockets, although FEW, and the OB classes have dwindled away to a handful...even though there are "hot spots" here and there. Gas OB's just haven't taken off here in the US. I have many theories ( too numerous to equate here) as to the lack of interest.
Well fellow boaters...let's get a good, thoughtful, intelligent recourse going here..now..even though you may think what you have to say doesn't apply in this area...the more we talk about it, the more it may become REALITY !!!!

JAY SELBY

F1madness 10-19-2013 12:31 PM

Hi Jay
Gas OB are slim, come to think of it so are F1's in general here in the UK ,i will always have a passion for them whether they are IB or OB ,probs here due to health and safety and exposed exhausts we/i run IB and not forgetting the expense of OB legs
Looking forward to finishing off new F1 and but got to finish other project 1st once sorted out.
Heres a sneak preview ;)

Outboard Jay 10-19-2013 05:57 PM

Hey F1,
Right on!!!! great looking hull...much fabulous work! Health and safety? Open exhausts? Never heard much of those 2...but the cost of legs??Yes, that is of primary concern to all...do you race...actually race, or are you a lone wolf? I think the big negative here (coupled w/cost) is that they are not fast enough for our boaters and THERE ISN'T A RTR ON THE MARKET AVAILABLE FOR A DECENT OUTLAY..

Jay

F1madness 10-20-2013 02:20 AM

Thanks Jay
due to health & safety regs we cant run open/uncovered exhausts in our club ,no more than 65mm can be uncovered, hence why i do the false OB helps with looks but covers the exhaust to comply with regulations ;)
I race with our club BMPRS and now have 2 cat classes for different engine sizes
I raced my last F1 for the 1st time and crashed out avoiding a dead boat ,been a wooden hull ended up been un-repairable. but overall the performance was blistering in both speed and handling, just my driving/lack of experience been on course with other boats let it down LOL

F1roddo 10-20-2013 03:19 AM

Hey Daz, now thats an awesome looking hull, very sleek and impressive. Can't wait to see the finished product with that one, and love your dumpy engine cowl, sweet!

Have to agree, the cost of outboard legs makes it nearly impossible for a lot of RC F1 enthusiasts to enter the hobby. Thats why I have also gone inboard, just can't justify
the cost of one of those legs from Netherlands region(i think). Great geared legs, and perform very well, just to far out of my budget.
Sure would be nice to have more selection of hulls and geared legs in the market place, and all at reasonable prices.

Cheers
Chris

F1madness 10-20-2013 07:01 AM

Cheers Chris
Im very happy with how this 1 looks and hopefully performance should be better than previous version, but will see early next yr ,need to finish other projects 1st before completing/moulding this 1 as theres more to this 1 and wanna make sure i get it right ;)
I thought about the stern/steerable drives and staying IB but even they are out of budget for now (maybe 1 day LOL )

Hey guys, thought I'd revive this thread a little bit and share some pictures of my newly painted F1 engine cowls. I think they came out pretty well, and look the part. The last picture is the full size 2.5 Merc that I was trying to replicate.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and safe n Happy New Year!!

Cheers
Chris
