Default Aeromarine Sport 40 Issues

Here are myissues:
Running a Areomarine sport 40 with a .46 Thunder Tiger Pro with Clutch, 1/4in flex drive, tuned pipe, and a prop around 44.5mm. Boat was fueled and ready to go for 1st run of the day. After about 12-13 laps around the course Ispun out. The boat never flipped over or submerged. After getting it back it sat for about an hour. Fueled it back up and started to run it again NO adjustments were made before going back out. The boat took off normal and before it reached the back straight it strated to lose power and stalled out. After bringing it back in the motor and the flex shaft were very hot. The other club member noticed the water pick-up tube came off the rudder, so we fixed that and checked to make sure the flex shaft was greesed, let it sit again to cool down. After temps were down started it back up and threw it back into the water. The same thing happend again good start and then lost power and stalled. What would cause these3 things? Very Hot flex shaft,Hot motor , and loss of power?

Thanks for you help!

Did you check to see whether the cooling line was clogged? A clog at the head could increase pressure and pop the cooling line at the rudder.

Hey Bill,

Pictures of your setup would be helpful, but there are usually really simple solutions to most of your problems.

Hot flex shaft is because of friction. Either the flex is running in a tube that is too small or there is not enough lube, however some heat is normal and to be expected.

Hot engine could be caused by numerous issues, but the most likely culprit is a lean mixture condition. Two possible causes for that would be an improperly set high speed needle or a clogged fuel line.

Stalling is probably a symptom of both too much friction in the flex and not enough fuel to power the boat under load.

If you find out the 1/4 flex is binding in the tube, I would suggest stepping down to a 3/16 collet and flex. You really don't need that large of a cable on sport 40 with a clutch, it's just more rotational mass for your engine to spin.

Good Luck,

Scott

Scott,
Thanks for the help. Tonight I removed the head and noticed the top of the piston has a small hole. Now that can't be good. I will try to post pictures tomorrow.

Bill
