We run dynamite 20% and in relation to the 4-40 its the push rod the original its weak so we replace it with a dubro push rod part # 360 I think.

Do a search in here or go back a page or two to find more info on the Shockwave 36.
Your Hobby shop should be able to provide you with some good fuel for this boat. You'll want to find some with 15-20% oil content and you should be able to run up to 40% nitro with no trouble.

well when i read the manual for the engine it highly recommended the blue thunder which they make so is this true or are they just trying to advertise? so what is the best fuel i can get and im not doing anything that serious so 20-30 percent is fine for me.

Horizon Hobbies owns them all, that's why they promote Blue Thunder. I shouldn't say this because I am a Moderator but I've seen on some sites where they don't advise using BT in any of their products.

Most important is to stick with car/boat fuel. Do not use airplane fuel, it has too much oil in it. If you want some series power, get O'Donnell 50%, it makes a huge difference!
Have fun!
