Default Macleod (Ross) is offline (he is in hospital badly injured)

Hi everyone,

I have got no idea how to use this forum, but I am following instructions from Macleod (Ross) to post this message to you all.

I am Karen, Ross' wife. Yesterday morning Ross was in an accident on his motor bike and he is now in hospital and is in quite a bad way. Ross will be offline for quite a while until he is well enough to come back on line. Ross has a broken collar bone and a broken pelvis in about 4 places (he is an extreme amount of pain and is confined to bed in hospital, he can't even raise his head or arms). Ross will be having surgery tomorrow morning to get a plate and screws put in place in his pelvis to help it heal correctly.

If any one wants to pass on any messages to him, please email me directly on my private email address which is:

[email protected]

and I will print them off and pass them onto Ross in his hospital bed directly.

Thank you.
Kind regards
Karen Schonrock

Thanks for the information Karen. Tell Ross to take it easy and that I hope that he will be back in here when he's back up to it. We were just sending private messages to each other during the weekend, he was telling me about how great the weather is down there and I was telling him how cold, snowy and just plain nasty it is up here.
I'll send him an e-mail but I'll try not to make him laugh.
In the meantime, you can keep us up-to-date in here.

Hi everyone,
Ross has had his surgery and is recovering well. The doctors say that he will be in hospital for around 8 weeks and flat on his back for 6 weeks. The surgery consisted of plates and pins in his pelvis as well as plate and pins in his collar bone. He has been in extreme pain, but the pain management team at the hospital have changed his pain medication around and now he seems a lot better not so much as he was before the surgery. Ross is now sitting up at 30 degree angle and will be allowed to gradually go up to 45 degrees, when he is sitting up enough, I will give him my laptop for him to use whilst he is in hospital which can connect to the internet and then he can email you all directly himself.
Thank you.
Kind regards
Karen Schonrock

Hey, you're back online! How ya doing Buddy or is this Karen? When you're up to it, you can fill us in on the details. I had a motorcycle for a while and I found out quickly that's it's a whole different world on a bike. You learn to drive defensively, keeping an eye on what's going on way ahead of you. Too many morons on the road that "can't see you".

Isn't that the truth. I love riding my KZ440 but I always expect the other guy to do something stupid and they usually do. Ron's right. You always drive with your eyes scanning the road WAY AHEAD and watch the guy that is waiting at an intersection to pull into traffic.

Hope you mend soon Ross. If you're sitting up I see no reason why you shouldn't be putting the deck on the Wild Thing!

Hi again everyone,

This is Karen, Ross' wife that is posting all of these messages not Ross. Ross tried sitting up at 45 degree angle yesterday, but it only lasted 10 minutes, he was in far to much pain, so he is back down lower again.

John, Unfortunately Ross is not able to have his boat in hospital as yet, he can't even feed himself at the moment, I feed him dinner most nights and the nurses feed each other time, he has done a good job this time, he is an absolute mess. Ross will be needing more surgery on his burn on his leg probably on Monday for a skin graft. I will keep you all posted.

Thank you.
Kind regards

Given what I know about these kinds of injuries (I ride a Ducati, my wife's a nurse) he's gonna be alright. make sure the docs stay on top of infection; in the meantime, it's just pain and time. He'll be okay. You have to believe that, so that he does...support is everything. There will be a "pace" of recovery...hold him to that, and push him when you feel/know you need to. Recovery is 10% the body, 10% the docs, and 80% attitude. Don't let his attitude slip; it's everything. You be strong for him, and he'll come along nicely,if not comfortably. It's work, but that's life...you pays yer money and you takes yer chances! it's a good thing...or at least it will be, eventually...That which does not kill us only makes us stronger, right?

Karen, that was a little tongue in cheek humor about the boat. But I do hope that he is feeling well enough to think about those sort of things in the very near future. My thoughts are with you both.

Hi everyone,

Just giving you all an update. The surgery for Ross' burn has been cancelled, it is healing nicely on its own so it is now not needed. Ross even had Fiona (Australian of the Year) burns specialist from Royal Perth Hospital looking over him, he is very lucky to have such a top doctor. Fiona is famous for her spray on skin development with burns and apparently has about 6 kids, for her to be doing this is fabulous. The rest of the good news is that Ross has now been relocated to Royal Perth Rehab Hospital in Shenton Park and is being looked after much better than what he was being looked after in Royal Perth Hospital in Perth, the nurses have more time in Shenton Park and give their patients a lot more care and attention, Ross spirits have greatly risen. Ross is sitting up at 45 degrees now and is managing but only for short periods of time, no more than 10 minutes to eat his meals. He still has to keep flat on his back until given clearance by the doctors, he just can't wait to bed time being flat on his back is over, we have been told at least another 2-4 weeks flat on his back. Ross has stated that he does not want another bike, he now wants a car, he does want to go through with this again!

Talk to you all again soon to keep you all updated.

Thank you.
Kind regards

I can partially relate to what he's going through. I've been hospitalized quite a few times in the past 6 years with heart problems and I one of the things that I didn't like was having my wife feed me while I was flat on my back. It's the simple things that we all take for granted that you really miss when you're laid up like that. I'll bet that he can't wait to get on his feet just so that he can use a toilet, I didn't like bedpans either.

It's postings like this Ross that may be off-topic but I felt was important. In our Moderator area, I've found out that most of us have health-relates issues (me, I'm a mess!) so I don't yhink that they'd complain either. You've been one of the good guys in here and I hope that things go well for you.
BTW, the snow is gone except for what is left from the big piles that were in parking lots. It got up to 73 earlier this week so I don't need your teaser pix!
Check in when you can Mate.

Hi all,

I am still in hospital, but have access to the internet through my wifes laptop.

Just to update, yesterday was the first time I have gotten up out of bed and taken a few steps around the ward. Also sitting up over the edge of my bed to have my meals. Trying to get used to being upright for as long as I can.

Should be free of hospital food in a couple of weeks.

While you're kickin' back, go over to www.rcflix.com , I posted 2 short vids of my .12 monos running in open water. They're not very good as I used my digital camera and there's no sound.
When you're flat on your back it feels good to get on your feet for a while. Keep up the progress!

Ross, my calendar says it's "Anzac Day" down there. Explain and does that have anything to do with you getting out of the hospital?

Hi John,

Yes it was ANZAC Day on monday here down under. Plus the monday is a public holiday, so I tried very hard to get out of hospital so I didn't have to wait for through the long weekend to go home. So I left on saturday and spend the weekend at home, not stuck in the hospital going even more insane.....[&:]
