Hmmmmm,

Actual thunderboats have it on the left. RC boats usually have it on the right. This has to do with the way the motor turns. RC boat motors turn counter clockwise which is why we race clockwise, it unloads the prop a little in the turn allowing for greater tork and a nice smooth arc. If we ran in the other direction the prop would always be fighting the turn and adding extra load on the engine. Thunderboats props turn clockwise which is why they race clounter clockwise for the same reasons.

I guess if you are only running it around for fun it doesn't really matter which side it's on. But it does seem strange. You won't be able to race it, presuming there is a class to race in. Also if you have a friend with a Midd Bud you cant race against them even for fun because both boats turn in different directions. Wierd!?!

GT,

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you meant the rudder system on the stern of the boat and not the turn fin under the front right side of the boat?

I see on the rear of the Llumar the rudder system is to the left of the prop and on the Bud it is to the right of the prop.

I believe this was done on the Llumar to allow it to make more stable and tighter right turns. You should call Horizon and speak to a tech there if you want to confirm why the change in design.

One reason may be to prevent bent rudder control rods. Having the rudder on the right required pushing the rudder arm, while having the rudder on the left requires pulling the rudder arm. Pushrods hold up significantly better when pulled rather than pushed.

It will turn just as good, if not better. Check out where this 1/8 scale boat has it's rudder and prop
