Default 3.5 k&b ss outboard problem

Hello I recently built a boat everything works excellent outside of the water once i put it in the water the boat runs for only about 5 to 10 seconds then slowly dies to a stop . i tried to give it gas when it starts to die and it doesn't react. any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Problem could be several things or a combo of some..

Needle - 3 1/2 to 4 turns out.
Foregin objects in the fuel line / needle area.
Fuel lines need to be short as possible, make sure a filter is used.
Tank position, using a hopper tank?
Bearings going out.
Scared piston/sleeve.
Prop to deep.
Check the flex cable for wear.

Did I miss anything?

Pretty complete, only thing I'd add is glow plug. My guess is the first item on your list, needle too lean.

The SS version needs to have the needle a little fatter than the other versions. Some others have put a larger fuel pressure fitting on the muffler. They'll really spit out the oil and fuel on the stand.

I'll have to check mine when I get home tonight to see where the needle is at. Don't know if Ron saw my Sprint / SS running last Saturday.

As for spit'n out the oil, they sure do.. One reason why there I put a filter on the pressure line.

There were a lot of boats running Saturday, the one that I really watched was your MAC powered OB tunnel.
It got kind of busy there, more so than at a regular race.

Yes, there were LOTS of boats running...

What did ya think of the MAC? Myself, thought it was still slow, but trying to break in the motor correctly. Also, the motor is still a bit deep.

Plan on going up to Cincy tomorrow for the club meeting. Hope to be there early to do some more break-in/testing with the two tunnels..

My SS was at 3 5/8 turns out. Prop is a Grimracer x1440. Fuel is Wild Cat 65%..

I thought that it was kind of slow but I forgot that you were breaking it in. I LOVE that prop, it is so cool! It makes me wish that I had something to bolt one onto.
