Default Tuning my 35 K&B Outboard, 31" Prather...

At first, it was leaning out on me at top end and would die dead the water if left at WOT for more than 3 seconds. I have opened the mixture screw 1/4 turn by 1/4 turn utnil the problem was fixed but now, it is real sluggish and non-responsive at low-middle speeds. it only runs good at top end. There is only 1 mixture screw on the side of the carb and a small idle screw on the back of the carb. How can this be fixed?

Thanks,

Dallas.

The initial setting of the carb should be near 3-1/2 turns out. K&B recommends 4-1/2 turns out but that's too rich to get it to fire up. The prop might be too much for it or the engine could be set too low giving you headaches. The centerline of your prop ought to be about level with the bottom of the Vee. The Octura X-437 or X-438 props are good ones to start with or a Prather 215.

Besides those Ron pointed out, I'd check for worn bearings or a piston/sleave on their last runs. Most likely that the motor is to deep.

Bob works at the main store in Fort Wayne but you can also talk to Steve there if Bob isn't around. The web site should be for the main store.
