Default Miss. Budweiser not working properly

Hi guys, I am new to RC boats and I just received a Miss. Budweiser boat as a birthday present from my parents. The problem I am having is that the boat does not vary in speed from like idol or 1/4 throttle or 1/2 throttle or any speed. Sometimes in idol the boat will randomly start moving smoothly and the motor will have a deeper tone (only when its just over idol) and when this happens it goes faster then the boat will go otherwise. What is wrong with my boat and how should I fix this problem?

It sounds like the engine is too rich. The carb is roughly pre-set from the factory so you have to adjust it to your conditions. Once you start it, give it a blip on the throttle. If it revs right up, it's too lean. If you have a slight lag then it ought to be close. A big lag that will sound like it's burbling indicates that it's way too rich.

When you put it in the water do you just set it in the water and hit the throttle from a stand still? Instead have someone give it a gentle toss into the water then hit the throttle as it goes in the water. The toss should be from just inches above the water and perfectly level it needs to have some momentum to begin with to allow it to get on step. The prop simply cant get it going from a full stop.

Well I have leaned it out from the factory settings and its still doing the same thing. What doesn't make sense to me really is how it randomly speeds up at very low speeds (would that be air bubbles in the fuel line?). What should the high speed needle be set at apporximately so I can see if what I have it tuned at is somewhat right. I have not tried giving it a gentle toss but I will as soon as I get up by the lake again.

The factory setting for the Hi-speed needle is 2-1/2 turns out. The manual says to start there and work your way out in 1/16 increments (truning clockwise).

AS for the random increasing/decreasing speeds on the engine. Look closely at your throttle servo linkage (runs from the engine to the throttle servo) when the engine is running at idle and behaiving as you describe.... is the throttle linkage moving slightly back and forth when the engine increases and decreases in speed (I'm betting it does). If so, the metal linkage is putting stress on the servo (constantly pulling on it) and will wear it out prematurely . If all this is the case, then try moving the end of the throttle linkage up to the next hole up on the horn (the plastic piece the rod connects to on the engine or to the servo - you can do this at either end).

Does that sound about right guys?

I don't want to sound negative, but does anyone have a bud that works right?
